Horses have a confidence just as we do. When we get nitpicked and it seems like every move we make is wrong, we lose confidence. Right? It’s the exact same as a horse. Yes, go ahead and correct your horse when something goes wrong and show him the right way, then reward him when he does the right thing. Don’t nitpick your horse for every tiny thing they do wrong, instead praise them for everything they do right. Your mindset when you are on their backs 100% determines how confident they are. Don’t be a negative Nancy and focus on the bad, focus on the good that they are doing. Show them what is right. They have bad days just as we do, they make mistakes, it’s part of learning just like it’s part of our learning as well. If something isn’t going right and you can’t fix it, make a change or get another opinion on it. I often compare horses to kids, they don’t know that they are doing something wrong most of the time. Instead of yelling or disciplining them, SHOW them what they are doing wrong, how they can fix it, and the right thing to do. If you are constantly yelling and disciplining them, all it’s teaching them is to hate whatever it is because they only get yelled at in the end. Who enjoys getting yelled at? NOT ONE PERSON. It’s the same with horses. Let them enjoy the sport, because if they don’t enjoy it, why would they go in that arena and work their butt off for you? They aren’t running for the money, buckles, saddles, etc. like we are. They are running for us because we are asking them to. Would you work your butt off for someone you hate? Absolutely not. So don’t make them hate you or the sport.

I thought I would share with y’all right quick what I do for treatment of ulcers. Not enough people know about this. This is the most inexpensive way and there is no need in spending a lot of money on ulcer guard or an omeprazole compound. You can get these packs of 3 14-pill packs of omeprazole from Sam’s Club for about $12. I think you can also get something similar from Walmart or CVS. What I do is crush the all of the 14 pills of omeprazole in the foil package with a hammer or in my case the back side of a large pocket knife (or whatever I can find to crush it if i don’t have a hammer handy) and then I put all of it in their feed daily for 30 days. I will also use this if I’m staying overnight at a big show or at a high stress place I’ll start it a couple of days before I leave and then until I get back so I don’t chance them getting ulcers. This is what a vet recommended to us years ago and this is what we have done since! I hope this helps y’all like it helped us!🖤🖤

SR Play Some French aka Ace with Olivia Porter had a woulda shoulda coulda kinda run that would have won by 2 tenths with a 14.2. i’ve just gotta brag on them a little. olivia has only been running barrels for around 2 years. she’s been one of my lesson girls for almost that long. ace has taken care of me in the past and is now doing phenomenal things with his new kid❤️ so so proud of them.
