Welcome to Sumbern kennel! Follow our farm family located in central Iowa raising kids and Bernese Mountain Dogs.

Bernese Mountain Dogs originate from the canton of Bern, Switzerland. Originally a herdsman's dog, they are accustomed to bonding strongly with their people. The running joke is that other breeds have owners, but Berners have staff! They are well adapted to our Iowa climates, enjoy their outside romps, as well as their inside naps...and they do like to take naps. Their personality traits are loyal

ty, affection, and a wonderful combination with their striking looks and large-breed profile. These dogs are heavy built and strong, yet kind enough to have a gentle demeanor. If you decide to partner with us, please know we hope to be a lifelong contact. These dogs are a part of our family, and we love them so much, we would like to bring that therapeutic joy to other families in our journey.

There is SO much thought, care and planning that goes into a litter of Bernese Mountain Dogs. It is an arsenal of testing to make sure the tools are in place to set the foundation for the next generation.

The more I research, the more I learn about pedigree history, the more I realize how much more there is to learn! ☺️

The good and great breeders are utilizing these tools for their foundation. The backyard breeders simply don't care. Choose wisely. 🐾
