Mustang update! She learned how to yield hind quarters/face up on day 1! & has never looked back, if she spooks it is over in 3 seconds & she will automatically face up for guidance (hmm...we should all do that!) enjoys being groomed(today's goal=untangle the wind twists in her gorgeous mane) accepts fly spray(on a brush), greets us with a nicker & comes over to get pets, joins up & follows everywhere, (halter & lead will be next), backs up, (she has this thing where she backs into her shelter-never seen that b4, so cute)is super curious & learns very quickly(only 1 day out of 40 that she did not want to train & honestly, she was right, it was too hot & buggy) she is an alpha mare for sure but is friendly with our other 3 horses (through the fence).

She is coming along soon well. Everyone here loves her. πŸ’•

Yesterday I touched her with the training wand...she did not like that but I also didn't give her enough warning. But this morning I touched her twice on her muzzle & she did not flee! Slow & steady.

This is #6299 from the HMA Divide Basin, Wyoming. She is a 6 year old Dunn with shoulder stripes, I believe some cobwebbing on her face & maybe some stripping on her legs. She is incredibly sweet, super curious, very athletic. She will be available for adoption when she meets her TIP requirements.

The BLM manages nearly 27 million acres of land in 10 Western States that have wild mustangs. The goal is to manage the herds to keep them & the land healthy. They do this by gathering horses & getting them adopted out. Controversial? You bet! But I'm not interested in arguing. I'm interested in getting as many Mustangs that have already been gathered into homes.

In 1971, Congress passed a law that declared wild horses to be "living symbols of the historic & pioneer spirit of the west" & puts the BLM, the bureau of land management, in charge of protecting these wild horse herds.
