Update again: there is now 1 girl puppy (girl #3, expected adult weight 8lb) still waiting to be chosen and 2 boys (boy #1, expected adult weight 10lb) (and boy #4, expected adult weight 7lb). They have just begun to be able to walk up on their legs, no more scooting around on their tummies. I can't wait for my daughter to come take videos of them walking. I'd love to share their first steps with all of you.

Male vs. Female Dogs: Guide to Dog Behavior
Tips to Help You Know What Kind of Dog to Get
By Mary Stasiewicz
In some ways, choosing between male and female dogs is a matter of
personal preference. However, there are some characteristics which are
common in females and other characteristics which are common in males.
It is important to evaluate these characteristics and determine which s*x
would fit in best with your home situation when you choose a puppy.
Additionally, choosing between male and female is important if you already
have another female or male and are choosing an additional dog. This
article will serve as a guide for genders and will list a few characteristics of
females, a few characteristics of males, and how to choose between male
and female when considering a second or third dog.
The following characteristics often apply to females:
1. Independent - Females tend to want to be in control of the entire
situation. They may come to their owner when they are seeking affection
but will often move away when they have had enough.
2. Stubborn - In many packs, a female is typically the Alpha dog. Females
crave more control of situations and are quick to respond to perceived
challenges with fierceness.
3. Territorial - Females mark in the same way males do. A spayed female
may continue to mark for her entire lifetime regardless of when she is
spayed while most males will cease marking behaviors shortly after they
are neutered and the testosterone levels subside.
4. Reserved - Females are generally less affectionate and friendly than
males. This characteristic is noticeable in puppies and becomes more
pronounced with age.
5. Changes in Mood or Behavior - It is also important to note that if you
do not spay your female, she will come into heat at approximately one year
of age and approximately every six months thereafter. During this time,
there will be some bleeding as well as a change in mood or behavior. Keep
this in mind when you adopt a puppy and make the decision of whether or
not to spay her.
The following characteristics often apply to male dogs:
1. Affectionate - Males are typically more affectionate than females. They
tend to crave
attention from their owners more than females and as a result, display
more affectionate behaviors.
2. Exuberant - A male is also more likely to be fun-loving and outgoing
throughout his lifetime than a female. While a female tends to become
more reserved as she ages, a male dog maintains a more puppy-like
exuberance throughout his lifetime.
3. Food-Motivated - Males are often very motivated by food. This food
motivation can make training extremely easy as treats can be used to lure
and reward to display desired behaviors.
4. Attentive - While females tend to be more independent, males tend to
be more focused on their human companions. They want to always be
close to the human and are very eager to please.
5. Aggressive Behaviors - It is also important to note that intact males
may display aggressive behaviors toward other males or exhibit marking
behaviors. Additionally, intact males should be kept away from females in
heat unless a breeding is planned.
Owners who are adding an additional dog to their home should carefully
consider the ramifications of adding a dog of either s*x. This is important
because the makeup of the existing pack may be more accepting to either
a male or a female. The following are general tips for selecting the gender
of a second dog:
1. If you already have a male or a female, a dog of the opposite s*x is
generally the best choice. Dogs of the same s*x are more likely to fight
than dogs of the opposite s*x.
2. If you already have a male, he is likely to be more accepting of a female
and you are likely to have fewer dominance issues if you add a female to
the pack. However, if you opt to add another male to the pack, they can
peacefully co-exist and may even become friends. It is important to closely
monitor their interactions early on to ensure aggressive behaviors do not
become common.
3. If you already have a female, she is likely to be more accepting of a
male. Most males tend to be submissive. If he does not challenge your
resident female, she is not likely to have a reason to fight with him. Adding
a female to the pack, however, may result in complications. The worst
combination is two females because they are more likely to fight than a
male and a female or two males. However, many dog owners have two or
more females that live together without problems. As long as there is an
established Alpha dog and the other females know their place in the pack,
there will not be dominance struggles often, although they may still occur.
Selecting a male or female is largely a matter of personal preference. The
above characteristics are generalizations, and it is certainly possible to
purchase or adopt a female puppy who displays male characteristics or a
male puppy who displays the typical female characteristics. Additionally,
females that are spayed and neutered often do not have the gender
specific problems associated with their s*x such as coming into heat or
marking.
So, if you're asking yourself, "What dog should I get?", make sure to
consider the dogs you already have and the gender that goes best with
your lifestyle. When you find a dog, monitor his or her behavior carefully
and consider how it will match up with your male or female at home. Good
luck choosing a dog!

These puppies are getting incredibly cute and cuddly. It's remarkable how much their color deepens after just 2 weeks. I have numbered these sweeties in order of their sizes. Puppy #1 is going to be the biggest, while puppy #8 will be the smallest. Boy #1 might grow to 11 lbs while boy #8 might grow to only 5 or 6 lbs. The puppies in between will be between 7 and 10 lbs in order of their name number. I sure hope that makes sense.

So exciting! I have puppies again. 2 perfect litters. A total of 8 puppies. 4 are girls and 4 are boys. The tiniest is a creamy white boy. I expect him to grow to barely 5 lbs. The next smallest is also a creamy white boy. There are 2 deep red girls who will grow a little bigger than those 2 tiniest. Next are a boy and a girl who are lighter red. and the 2 largest (grow to 10 lbs) are a boy and a girl. I am not going to choose who gets which puppy right away. If you have a strong preference, then let me know so I will take that into consideration.
All of my parent dogs and most of the grandparent dogs have been thoroughly DNA tested and zero health issues were found in any. If I had found any heritable issues I would not breed that dog. In fact one mommy has DNA that shows she has an exceptionally high resistance to copper poisoning, pretty cool. I still wouldn't let her eat pennies :).
The grandpa dogs on both mothers' sides and the father's side were under 5 lbs. Because of this 1/4 of my puppies will grow up to be less than 5 lbs. A couple of my past puppies' adult weight is just under 3 lbs and they are 100% completely healthy. Others have grown to 12 lbs. I am very good at accurately estimating a doggy's adult weight even when pup is only 2 weeks old. Fortunately only about 1/4 of families want an extra tiny puppy and about 1/4 of families would like the adult size to be bigger. Most families are happy with a medium sized fluffy Maltipoo. They are all loving sweet doggies.
Dove is 1 sweet mommy dog. She weighs 8 lbs. Her Poodle mommy was 10 lbs and her Maltese daddy was 5 lbs. Ginger is my other loving mommy. She weighs 12 lbs. Her Poodle mommy was 13 lbs and her Poodle daddy was just barely 5 lbs. Topaz is my devoted daddy dog. His Poodle mom was 12 lbs and his Maltese dad was 5 lbs. So you can see that there are genetics for my puppies to grow to between 5 and 12 lbs. I am good at estimating the final weight of a Maltipoo puppy even when it is only 3 weeks old. All my parent dogs are unrelated.
Once puppies are at least 2 weeks old you are welcome to come over for a porch visit during daylight hours to meet puppies and their parents. I live in north east Renton. I am home most of the time.
I plan to post pictures as these cuties grow. So fun.

Update: Snickers has just been taken home by a wonderful new loving home. This snuggly little guy is already 11 weeks old. He has had the first 2 in the series of 3 puppy shots that puppies require. He uses my washable potty pads really well. I'm really proud of how well he is potty trained. We expect Snickers to be small, 7 to 7.5 lbs when he's all grown up. I live in North East Renton. If you would like to come meet Snickers and his parents for a porch visit during daylight hours then just send me a PM.

A very nice family who chose Ginger's smallest puppy didn't realize how incredibly much attention and patience little puppies require. They are sad but realize it is in the puppy's best interest if he came back to me. Little Snickers has been back with me for a few weeks now. He is a perfect little puppy, happy, playful, loves his food and loves naps. Since he has been back i have been having him sleep at night in my bed with me and all my other snuggly dogs. During the daytime if we are indoors he looks for a potty pad to use. I have a number of washable potty pads throughout the house so it is easy for Snickers to be a good dog.
I am really enjoying having him here but he needs to be chosen by a loving family while he is at that most adaptive stage. That means I have one adorable 10 week old boy maltipoo puppy available. Please pm to me for details.

It is not about any puppies here, whew.
This is a story from a breeder I know on the east coast.
It is not about any puppies here.
"Itโ€™s with a very heavy heart Iโ€™m posting this about our darling Little Lilly. ๐Ÿ˜ข She was going today to NY with nanny to a wonderful family. Sadly yesterday out of the blue she collapsed. I thought her sugar levels had dropped, so quickly gave her a glucose drink. She seem to respond but then collapsed again in my arms. My husband rushed her to the veterinarian who put her on a drip. She seemed to rally around and stood up wagging her little tail so again we thought she was going to be fine. However, again she collapsed so my veterinarian did lots of tests and X-rays. He found her intestines had a blockage and had collapsed. To late for a surgery. The blockage was due to a small piece of potty pad. We use reusable cloth pads 99% of the time but the day before Evan had put a paper potty pad on the floor as they were running around playing. They had played tug of war with it tearing it to pieces so Evan removed it. We had no idea she had eaten some ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ.
The veterinarian told us those pads have gels to soak up the p*e. So when she ate some, the gell swelled in her intestines. The vet said that this has happened to many puppies and dogs over the years and he hates those pads. I just want to warn everyone about this as thereโ€™s nothing on the package stating this. I never want anyone to go through this with their puppies or dogs, it has broken our hearts. We kept our adoption family informed from the start, but what a huge shock for them. They were so excited to be receiving her today, then this. So please be extra vigilant when using disposable potty pads. I never want this happening to another puppy ever again. This picture was taken just the day before. My poor husband stayed with her while they put her to sleep. I just keep crying. ๐Ÿ˜ญ"

Here is another update on my cute little puppies.
Dove's puppies have all been chosen by wonderful, loving families.
Gingers puppies are 7 weeks old and will grow a little bigger than Doves puppies. Gingers puppies still waiting to be chosen are 2 boys that are red color and 1 shiny cream girl. These puppies are expected to grow to 8 - 11 lbs. They are already eager for attention from people. I sure have a terrific job.

Hi to nice dog people. I have been getting some questions. I would like to clarify some things.
My puppies are raised in pens. A small cozy pen for the first 3 weeks, then a larger plastic pen from 3 weeks to 5 weeks old then a bigger wire pen after that. In the wire pen they can see activity of people and dogs so they won't be too shy of activity. The wire pen is long and narrow with food, toys, etc at one end and potty pad at the other end. Since puppies naturally won't mess in their food / sleep area they naturally go to the pad area to potty. This way they are accustomed to using the pad. When they go to their new home they expect to find a pad in easy access to go potty. These pads can be inside your house or right outside, depending on the weather. (A tiny puppy will have trouble to potty out in shivering cold.) They can be transitioned off the need for a pad, your choice. The puppies stay in the pens except when they are being held by people here.
This also reduces any stress in crate training. To aid in their transition from sleeping in a puppy pile I am going to give you a "Snuggle Puppy". The kind with a heart beat. I have rubbed the Snuggle Puppy on mom and siblings so the toy will become a familiar friend. This has worked well for my past puppies to avoid the shock of being away from litter mates.
I hope this clarified some questions.

Ginger, my red miniature poodle mommy has 5 little bundles of joy. Ginger's daddy was only 5 lbs so even tho Ginger is 12 lbs I think her babies will be smaller as adults. Ginger's 2 red boys could be twins, they look just alike. She also has 3 chubby little girls. One is gold / red and the last 2 are creamy apricot. Since Topaz is their daddy who had a bearly 5 lb maltese father and a larger red poodle mother these Maltipoo puppies are 3/4 poodle and 1/4 maltese. They will have soft curls that do not tangle easily making grooming them easy. These doggies will make a family loved and entertained. I tried to label these pictures so you can know which are girls or boys but facebook is really hard for me to figure out. I hope the additions that I made will help enough. Future pictures will have labels.
