All too often, when the interests of man and animal are in conflict, man prevails. Animal welfare is a social matter, of which, people need learn to be passionate. The Eau Claire County Humane Association is dedicated to educating the public about the need for humane treatment of all animals and responsible pet ownership. We must rely on donations from our friends and supporters who share our beli

ef that every animal deserves the opportunity to be adopted into a loving home. Because it is difficult to run a shelter based solely on donations, our success depends on you. You CAN make a difference. Your generous support of the Humane Association will help us to feed and care for our local pets until they are adopted into a loving home.

ECCHA was absolutely thrilled to welcome handlers from Dogs Playing For Life in the last 2 days to teach us about running safe and effective playgroups at the shelter!

Playgroups are wonderful way to bring down stress levels in a shelter environment by providing exercise as well as allowing dogs to exhibit normal behavior. It also assists in building confidence for some of our shyer friends, and teaches puppies appropriate play with other dogs. It is a great tool for us to be able to tell how dogs do with one another and set them up for success in their future adoptive home!

We were excited to invite some friends from other shelters - Chippewa Humane, Cequamegon Humane, and Washington Humane - to join us yesterday to learn how to incorporate playgroup into everyday activity.

Adoptable Siren has been out playgroup rockstar the last two days - she has done excellent with all pets she has met. This high-energy girl is tuckered out!

Yesterday started out like any other day, until Officer Velin from Eau Claire Animal Control came in to bring us a stray animal. First thing she said, β€œHey, did you see what was inside your donation bin?”

8 cats, dropped in the middle of the day, right under our noses. The car pulled up away from our cameras and out of view from our windows. Animal Control has been notified and is aware of the situation.

We decided to name them Snow White and her 7 dwarfs - Sleepy, D***y, Doc, Grumpy, Sneezy, Happy, and Bashful, to reflect the fairytale ending they will no doubt get now that they are in ECCHA care. Luckily, the cats seem to be healthy and will be available for adoption after their vet exam.

We want to be very clear about this: we are here for you, every day, no judgment. We want your pets safe as much as you do.

If you are going through hardships and can't care for your animal:
please talk to us.
If you are worried about paying a surrender fee:
please talk to us.
If you find yourself caring for an abandoned animal:
please talk to us.

We will figure it out together. We are here to provide a vital resource to our community and will do anything we can to ensure your pets come to us safely.

ECCHA is so excited to share that we’re partnering with animal shelters throughout the country (and beyond) for the first annual International Shelter Shelter Slumber Pawty, presented by Kindness Animal Hospital, Market & Johnson, Inc., and Oakwood Hills Animal Hospital!

🐾 On Saturday, April 5th hundreds of animal lovers across the US will spend 24 hours side-by-side with shelter pets to raise funds and awareness for community animals. 🐾

ECCHA's most dedicated supporters will spend 24 hours at our facility eating, sleeping and β€œpawty-ing” with our amazing shelter residents while raising money to support our programs. Fundraising begins TODAY for all participants!

Head to our official Pawty Page to browse our participants, read their stories, and donate to their team to help them win cool prizes! Can't decide on what fundraiser to donate to? You can also donate to the pawty overall!

Is your business or organization looking to give back more in 2025? ECCHA has tasks everyday that you can help with!

From running a fundraiser, baking treats, helping with projects, or working outside like our friends at Clean Green did today - there is no shortage of group activities we could have your assistance with! Spring is especially busy for projects - many of them being outdoors or prepping for our summer season!

Groups can range from anywhere up to 20 people. Learn more about volunteering on our website, or reach out to our volunteer coordinator, Tracey, for more information and to schedule a time to come in!

It's Friday - which means its time for Foster Friday! Sweet Gimli is here to greet everyone!

Gimlli (better known as Gim-Gam, Gimmers, and Gimmie) has been in a foster home for about a month and is thriving! In previous posts we have stated he is slow to trust men, but his foster dad quickly became his favorite person to snuggle with. When given time and patience, he becomes the sweetest snuggle bug. Gimli loves belly bongos and butt scritches, and will never say no to an extra-stinky bone.

He continues to take direction well, especially if his crate is offered to him. Gimli finds comfort in his kennel and will willingly go in when he is feeling overwhelmed.

Foster mom does say that he is still reactive when he is on walks and sees other dogs. Gimli would love a tall fenced in yard so he doesn't feel like he needs to protect his things. He would also benefit from a strong, confident leader who can work on redirecting his reactions. He is a smart boy and is eager to please!

Gimli also qualifies for our 30 Day Fiance program, which means you can have Gimli in your home for 30 days to see him blossom into the boy we all know and love before you officially adopt. Learn more and apply for Gimli at ECCHA.org/adopt and stop in to see him today (Friday) only 1-4 PM!

The Eau Claire Community Humane Association has one main goal - to give homeless animals a voice and a second chance. That goal weighed heavy on our minds when we got the call about a Birmingham, Alabama shelter who had more than exceeded capacity.

Greater Birmingham Shelter was F-U-L-L. So full, that they had animals living in pop up kennels throughout their shelter. When that call is made, we all answer, and together with other shelters across the US, they transferred over 70 animals; 44 cats and 29 dogs of varying ages in all.

ECCHA is proud to say that we were able to take 5 adult dogs. While its not a huge number, anything in this situation helps our animal welfare partners. ECCHA also wants to recognize an amazing volunteer, Ali, who has now assisted with two national transfers! Thank you for your help!

The dogs are settled in at the shelter and are waiting to find a loving family here in the Midwest. Learn more about the dogs at eccha.org/adopt
