All too often, when the interests of man and animal are in conflict, man prevails. Animal welfare is a social matter, of which, people need learn to be passionate. The Eau Claire County Humane Association is dedicated to educating the public about the need for humane treatment of all animals and responsible pet ownership. We must rely on donations from our friends and supporters who share our beli

ef that every animal deserves the opportunity to be adopted into a loving home. Because it is difficult to run a shelter based solely on donations, our success depends on you. You CAN make a difference. Your generous support of the Humane Association will help us to feed and care for our local pets until they are adopted into a loving home.

We embraced the chill yesterday and had a soup party! 🍜

We invited staff to make a soup to share with everyone (volunteers, too!) then we voted on our favorites! It was a close race, but ultimately Ali R. won the Golden Ladle with her chicken and homemade dumpling soup!

Moments like this help us slow down, connect, and show up even more for the animals in our care. Thanks to all of the staff and volunteers who sampled and voted for their favorite!

It's Foster Friday! Please meet PANCAKE! 🥞

Oh my, pancake is just so sweet! Don't let her permanent grumpy face fool you, she is a happy and wiggly girl who loves life. The shelter was pretty overwhelming for her, so she went to foster with one of our staff members and has been doing excellent.

She absolutely adores all of her foster siblings - an 8 year old girl, a one year old male dog, and two cats! She wouold make a great addition to any home - but she would especially love a quiter home with a friend or two.

Pancake was spayed yesterday, and she is ready to meet you! Pancake is making a special appearance at the shelter the rest of the weekend, stop in and say hello!

Our adult cats have an ‼ URGENT ‼ REQUEST today:

We are always appreciative of all donations from our wonderful community, but the wide variety of food we have been giving our adult cats lately has led to a lot of upset bellies. Our caretakers and volunteers have been cleaning up lots of messes this week, and would very much appreciate some consistency in the cat's diets! They have requested:

Dry Adult Food - Iams Orange Bag or Purina One Blue Bag
Wet Adult Food - Non-seafood flavors of any brand

Donations can be dropped off anytime in our covered donation area!

BONUS medical Monday from our very own Dr. Gooden! Let's chat about breed mixes, and why we label all of our pets as "mixed breed" at the shelter:

"Sometimes we get asked why we list our dogs as mixed breed. Do you know that we are only accurate about 27% of the time when we guess based on appearance according to research performed by Maddie's fund? Not to mention dogs change over time. When we have a puppy come in, they can change dramatically in a matter of just a few weeks which then changes our guess!"

"Giving incorrect breed information can have ramifications beyond simply owner curiosity. Some insurance companies provide coverage for homes with some breeds. This is unfortunately often times bully breeds, but we've seen it with herding breeds and other terriers as well. There are many breed specific health concerns as well. Knowing breed can help guide needed genetic testing for disease or even just guide differentials for variety of clinical symptoms."

"While there is debate about the accuracy of direct to consumer dna tests, they are more accurate than our eyeballs."

"Here are some Gooden own dogs....any guesses to their breeds? Dna results will be revealed in the next couple of days so keep your eye out! Nashvile is black & white, Arthur is tan and white with the straight up ears, and Flo is the tan and white on the couch."

We don't want to admit it - but winter certainly is coming! ❄

With Daylight Savings in our review mirror, its time to start thinking about the drop in temperature. Check out a blog post that Education Committee member, Taylor, wrote titled "Winter Prep for Your Furry Friend." The article covers enrichment ideas, tips for protecting paws and skin, and common winter items to keep away from your pet.

What are some things you do for your pet(s) before the winter chill sets in? Leave ideas in the comments for other pet owners! Pictured is Winston, who was adopted by a caretaker last winter!

It's Foster Friday! Meet Pumpkin Spice and her kittens during open hours 1-4!

Pumpkin Spice is ready to be an empty nester and find loving homes for her and her kittens. Pumpkin Spice came in as a pregnant stray and were all raised together in a loving foster home. PS is a sweet and gentle girl who loves cozy naps, chin scratches, and quiet time with her people. My foster says she's been a “purrfect houseguest” and has the sweetest personality.

Clove, Nutmeg, and Ginger just turned 8 weeks old and are excited to find a home to "spice" up their life! Apply online at eccha.org/adopt

We are open TODAY (Thursday) from 1-7 PM! Please meet our big floof, Manolo!

Manolo came to us as a surrender about a month ago, and has been in isolation recieving some treatment for illness. Manolo had made a full recovery and is ready to find his loving home!

Manolo is big, he weighs about 9 lbs! Although he is larger than most rabbits, he is a true gentle giant. He loves gentle head and ear rubs, and doesn't mind being picked up. He LOVES his timothy hay, and will eat it happily alongside with veggies and pellets as part of a balanced diet.

ECCHA has a few small and special pets availble - take a look at all of them on our website: ECCHA.org/adopt
