ECCHA sees the largest influx of stray animals around the 4th of July, as pets are often scared of the fireworks and run off. So, what happens if it's your pet runs off, or if you find a stray animal?

Head to our website and fill out either the Lost Pet or Found Pet form. Each of these forms populate to the appropriate category in which to display the animal - either strays in ECCHA care or Pets Missing in the Community. Our website updates in real time once forms are filled - so continue checking our website daily for updates.

While we have limited viewing hours, we are in house for stray drop-off and redemption everyday from 9-4:30 PM. There is a small fee that fluctuates depending on how many days your pet was housed with us, if they are spay/neutered, and the location in which you live. We are always willing to work with you if fees are an issue for reclaiming your beloved pet.

As a reminder, the shelter is CLOSED for public viewing hours today. Stray drop off and redemption are during normal hours, 9-4:30. We will resume normal viewing hours tomorrow (Saturday) from 1-4 PM.

If you found a stray in the City of Eau Claire, remember you can call the non-emergency number and a member of Animal Control can pick them up to bring them to us safely!

Celebrating outdoors this weekend? 🌊

While us Wisconsinites LOVE to be outside during the 4th, remember to think of the health and safety of your pet, too! Here are a few quick tips for safety ranging from food to fireworks:

🌭 The 4th is always accompanied with BBQ and camaraderie - think twice before sharing your delicious meal! Remember foods like steak, beans, and dessert may be yummy for your dog, they are not good for their systems. Offer them something from the veggie try like carrots, celery, or blueberries instead!

🎆 If you know there will be fireworks wherever you are going, leave your pup at home! Even the most well-trained dogs can still be scared by the loud, unexpected booms of fireworks. If you must bring your dog, make sure they are securely leashed and with you at all times. For both cats and dogs at home during fireworks, make sure they have a safe space they can go to if they need it - their kennel, a dark closet, or curled up with you watching tv are great options!

☀️ Give them breaks from the sun! While we know that our pups love to sunbathe, it's important to remember that they do not sweat, and therefore cannot regulate their body temperature as well. Make sure to offer plenty of indoor breaks, as well as fresh, clean water at all times.

Another post for the upcoming festivities this week! 🎆

ECCHA sees the largest amount of stray and misplaced animals in the days surrounding the 4th of July. ECCHA urges you to keep your pet safe by:

🏠 Keeping them indoors as much as possible
🐕 If they are outside, keep them on a leash or a secure tether
🎆 DO NOT bring animals to any firework shows

ECCHA has no open kennels at this time - please keep your pets safe so they do not have to end up at the shelter!

Please join us at The Brewing Projekt tonight at 5:30 for Breeds & Behaviors - A Fundraiser for ECCHA! Walk-ins welcome!

Heather Mishefske, CPDT-KA/CBCC-KA, owner of emBARK and local dog behavior expert, will bring her three decades of working with dogs to light and explain how many behaviors that you observe in your dog might just be normal and how you can find ways to meet the needs of those behaviors in an appropriate way. A fun night of beer and behavior to support our local community animal shelter

We are open TODAY (Thursday) 1-7, plus Friday & Saturday 1-4 PM! We still have a few guinea pigs who are looking for a loving home, stop by and see them this week!

We are extending our $5 Guinea Pig special until they are all adopted - our small animal room is full of these little guys! While they do make a great low-maintenance pet, ECCHA will tell you all about their unique needs as a small pet. Including diet, cleaning, and recommended space to live.

We have SO many adorable dogs from puppies to seniors available!

Have you ever wanted to try fostering? Now is a great opportunity! With full kennels, we are looking for both long and short term fosters to take on an adorable pup - or better yet, adopters!

🐾 You CAN have other animals at home - we match you with the best fit!
📅 Whether its a weekend or until the animal is adopted - we need all hands on deck!
🐶 ECCHA gives you necessary supplies - a kennel, food, toys, and everything in between!
☀️ Summer plans? No worries! Let us know ahead of time and we will happily take them back at the shelter when you're gone!
