Gimli has once again been adopted and returned and we just can't understand why 💔

EDITED TO ADD: Gimli also protects his people, but in previous foster homes he was able to work on those guarding tendencies with redirection and crate training very well! ECCHA will provide all potential adopters with detailed information, as well as a FREE 4 week training program to help with this to set him up for success!

Gimli (Gimmers, Gim Gam, Gimmi boy) is truly a diamond in the "ruff." He is an XL dog, coming in around 100 lbs, and is the definition of a gentle giant. In his former foster/adoptive homes, we have discovered some really amazing qualities:

💚 He does excellent with kids, even small ones
💚 He seems to not care about cats in the home and will coexist well with them
💚 He is very quiet overall
💚 He does not get into things he isn't supposed to and can be home alone with no issues
💚 He takes treats and food very gently
💚 He makes the cutest grumbles!
💚 Has been described as the perfect dog by a former foster

There is just one non-negotiable, and that is he cannot live with another dog. That's it! That's not too bad, right?!

It's Foster Friday! Please meet Mr. Tybalt!

Tybalt is a young pup that came to ECCHA as a stray. Tybalt has never met anyone he didn't like - he will immediately run up to everyone and beg for pets! Tybalt went into foster because we did not think he really understood "how to dog" yet.

Tybalt went to foster with an active, young adult dog and has been doing so well! Tybalt's foster brother has been teaching him how to play, how to go outside to potty, and how to snuggle on the couch with their resident human. We highly recommend Tybalt go to a home with another dog, as he has come very far living with one!

Tybalt will be at the shelter FRIDAY and SATURDAY during open hours this week! Come and meet this sweet young man 1-4 PM either day.

🐾❤ 30 DAY FIANCÉ ❤🐾

February is quickly approaching and love is in the air! We think this is the purr-fect time to announce our new program we like to call 30 Day Fiancé!

30 Day Fiancé is made for specific animals that may need the extra time to acclimate to a new home due to illness, behavioral quirks, or amount of time spent in the shelter.

This program allows potential adopters to have an extended Slumber Pawty with the animal to ensure they are a good fit for their home or lifestyle. The shelter environment can be very stressful on animals here, and some do not "show" well in their kennels. When given ample time, these animals often blossom into their true selves in a home setting!

Here are our first 3 dogs eligible for our 30 Day Fiancé program. Jack Daniels, Trixie Bixie, and Sansa are all looking for a loving home to call their own!

"Petting an animal, we know it can decrease heart rate, its companionship, it helps with loneliness," [Anne] Allen said.

Its good for the cats too.

"What they give us and also what we can give them, I mean there is as much wonderfulness in that as we are also taking care of something, its not all selfishly just for me," Allen said.

The shelter will only be open today from 1-4 PM, but don't worry, today is the day of our same day adoption event with Mr. Kitty's Cat Café & Boutique!

Head on over to the cat cafe for half off walk-ins starting at 4 PM, grab a drink or sweet treat, and fall in love with one of the 16 adoptable cats! The best part? ECCHA will be on site processing same day adoptions from 5-7 PM! This is the purr-fect excuse to finally meet one of those cats you've seen all over their socials. You can have a new cat in the matter of a few hours!

In addition, the cat cafe will be drawing for the winner of their kitty quilt raffle! Interested in getting in on the fun? There are still tickets available and you can purchase them when you stop in.

Jack Daniels LOVED his Sniffari at emBARK! We are so lucky to partner with several daycares in the area to get some fantastic enrichment for our shelter dogs - especially in this cold weather! If you would like to donate to our dog enrichment fund at emBARK, give them a call!

JD did very well with both dogs and cats in his former foster home. JD comes off very nervous initially, so positive reinforcement only is an absolute must for this guy. He enjoyed running and playing with his canine foster siblings, and was all around a true gentleman!
