Well we had special visitor today
Hello world! It's announcement time! It's been a few months since we've shared much of anything and we apologize, but it has been busy at the Ranch and the time's come to catch everyone up.
Our dam Raya (black) had a rough time back in July. She whelped a litter of two pups--the smallest yet for her. One was stillborn and the other, a black male, was about half the size of his sister. After a day and a half, Raya was still showing signs of labor so we took her to Shenandoah Animal Hospital to get her checked out. The vet verified there were no more puppies, which was a big relief because she would've needed a C-section to extract them. Raya was given a dose of oxytocin to help her labor subside and we had to help her puppy nurse from all her nipples evenly to prevent infection. Needless to say that scare was enough for us and we've decided to have her spayed. Raya is by far the sweetest, most well-behaved lab in our family and will continue to be just that even after she's removed from our breeding stock.
Raya's sole surviving puppy lived and thrived with our lab family for ten weeks. He was given the name Daxon and has found a home with some good friends of ours in the Roanoke area. He's happy and healthy and living it up on 17 mountainous acres with a couple new dog buddies. And yes, it's only been a few days since he's been gone and we already miss him.
Our best-laid plans had been to rest Daisy (yellow) until next year but she and Lucas had other conflicting plans in mind. We didn't witness the act but Luke figured out how to escape his cage one evening Daisy wound up pregnant as a result. She whelped a litter of exactly one silver female and one charcoal male on September 14th. It must've happened for a reason....we'll be donating the charcoal boy to previous Ru Ru Ranch customers who tragically lost their charcoal boy, Capone, homed to them only last October. We pray that he can somehow fill the void left in the wake of Capone's passing.
