🐾 Watch me & Molokai in action! 🐾Today, we’re building a solid foundation for future behavior shaping by focusing on engagement and attention. I’m teaching Molokai to chase and follow the food reward in my hand. This exercise not only builds his engagement but also strengthens his focus on me. 🌟Engagement is key to creating a dog that is focused, attentive, and motivated. It lays the groundwork for all training, improving our bond and ensuring Molokai knows that rewards come from working together. 💪❤️Remember, if you want to teach a dog anything, you must first have their attention. #DogTraining #Engagement #Focus #MolokaiInTraining 🐶✨

When a dog encounters a fearful or anxiety inducing stimulus a complex neurological reaction begins. How each dog responds depends on a myriad of factors such as age, experiences, genetics, and developmental thresholds and more. Thresholds (or windows of tolerance), also known as the point where a stimulus is of a strong enough intensity to elicit a stress response in the dog. We can often alter, or raise these thresholds through sound training, desensitization and counter-conditioning. However, before we can embark on that journey we must first understand what is happening under the hood. Think of it like this: Scary Thing + Dog’s Brain Reaction = Dog’s Action (Fight, Run Away, or Freeze). 1.Scary Thing: This could be anything that makes the dog afraid, like a loud noise or a stranger. 2.Dog’s Brain Reaction:•Alarm Center in the Brain (Amygdala) Activates: This part of the brain alerts the dog that something scary is happening.•Stress Response Kicks In: The dog’s brain sends signals to release stress hormones, getting the body ready to react. 3.Dog’s Action (Fight, Run Away, or Freeze): •Fight: The dog may bark, growl, or bite if it can’t run away. •Run Away (Flight): The dog tries to escape the scary situation. •Freeze: The dog stays very still, hoping the scary thing will go away.

Recall is not just about getting your dog to come when called, it’s about teaching them to navigate the world safely and confidently. It’s crucial to practice in real-world conditions, amidst distractions, and in novel environments. This is where the magic happens!
My approach to Recall is a bit different. I like to let the dog roam and explore her surroundings, taking in all the novel smells and sensations. Then, I periodically call her back. This method is more natural and closely mirrors real-world scenarios. It allows the dog to fully embrace her “dogness” without feeling restricted or overwhelmed.
This approach avoids burning out your dog or making them feel like they can’t leave your side. After all, we want our dogs to explore and enjoy their world, not fear it.
Remember, Recall is a journey, not a destination. So, let’s make it as enjoyable and enriching as possible for our furry friends! 🐶 #DogTraining #RecallPractice #DogLife
Mastering the art of the structured walk 🐾🚶♂️. It’s not just about physical exercise, but mental stimulation and confidence building too. When your dog learns to pace with you, remain at your side, and sit automatically when stopped, they’re not just following orders - they’re learning to trust and respect you as their leader.
Sometimes, it’s okay to let them lead the way. But if you’re dealing with behavioral issues, it might be time to step back into the driver’s seat. Need help navigating? Reach out to Heel and Heal K9 🐕🦺. We’re here to guide you and your furry friend towards a healthier, happier relationship. Remember, the best way to love them is to lead them.

Understanding Opposition Reflex is a crucial aspect in taking the leash as a safety tether and transforming it into a direct line of communication between you and your dog. The opposition reflects is a natural, involuntary response seen in many animals, including humans. It refers to the automatic movement of body parts in the opposite direction to an external, he applied force or pressure. The primary purpose of the opposition reflex is to maintain stability, balance, and posture in response to changes in the environment or disturbances to balance. It plays a crucial role in the coordination of movement and maintaining proper muscle tone. It is especially evident in dogs. When a dog is on a leash, and they feel pull from their human, the dog’s natural opposition reflex, will cause it to resist against the tension. in humans, for example: if you push against the back of a standing person shoulder, their natural response is to push back against your force.Understanding this reflects allows handlers to work with the dog’s natural responses, rather than against them, leading to more effective training and communication. #OppositionReflex #PressureOnPressureOff #NaturalInstincts #AnimalReflexes#TrainingTips#BalanceAndStability#BodyCoordination#InvoluntaryResponse#InstinctiveBehavior#TrainingAnimals#AnimalCommunication#UnderstandingInstincts#DogTrainingInsights#AnimalLearning#instinctualreactions
🐾📢 Exciting progress with Hallie’s counter-conditioning journey! Check out this video where we’re working on changing her relationship with being grabbed or picked up! 🐶💕
A few of Hallie’s bites revolves around handling and space.
🎥 Watch as I conduct handling and lifting drills with Hallie. Every time I lift her, I mark the behavior with a cheerful “yes” and reward her with treats and praise. 🙌🏼🍖
🧠 The goal is to create a positive association and help Hallie rewire her neurological and emotional response to being handled. By consistently rewarding her during these exercises, we’re building trust and confidence in her, showing her that being lifted can be a pleasant experience. 💪🏼😊
💡 Additionally, we’re introducing a cue to prepare Hallie for future instances where she may need to be picked up, handled, or moved. We’re teaching her the word “up” as a preparatory command, allowing her to understand what’s happening and feel more comfortable during these situations. 🗣️✨
🌟 With time, patience, and plenty of positive reinforcement, we’re confident that Hallie will develop a healthier and more positive perspective on being handled. We’re excited to see her grow and thrive! 🌱💖

🐾🧠 Unlocking Your Dog's Inner Zen: The Power of the "Place" Command 🧘♂️🐶
Hey fur-parents! 🌟 Today, I want to share with you an amazing tool that has worked wonders for my furry friend's impulse control, overall state of mind, and ability to find calm amidst the chaos. It's the mighty "Place" command! 🐾
The "Place" command is more than just a fancy trick. It's a powerful training technique that helps dogs develop their impulse control while promoting a state of relaxation and focus. Here's why it's so beneficial:
1️⃣ Impulse Control: By teaching your dog to stay calmly on a designated spot, like a mat or bed, you're empowering them to resist the urge to jump, bark excessively, or engage in other impulsive behaviors. This skill is essential for their safety and your sanity! 🙌
2️⃣ Mental Well-being: Just like humans, dogs can experience stress and anxiety. The "Place" command provides them with a designated space where they can retreat and feel secure. It becomes their own personal sanctuary, promoting a sense of peace and stability. 🏡💆♀️
3️⃣ Calm States of Mind: Practicing the "Place" command regularly helps dogs learn to settle and find their inner calm. When they master staying in one place for extended periods, they begin to understand that calmness is rewarded. Over time, this promotes a more relaxed state of mind in various situations. 😌
4️⃣ Focus and Training: The "Place" command strengthens your dog's ability to concentrate and listen to your commands. It becomes an excellent foundation for other exercises, enhancing their overall obedience and responsiveness. Plus, it's a great way to mentally stimulate them by giving them a job! 🎓💡
Remember, introducing the "Place" command requires patience and consistency. Start with short durations and gradually increase the time. Make it a positive and rewarding experience for your furry friend. 🎉
So, let's embrace the power of the "Place" command
Training sessions can take a hilarious turn sometimes! 🐾😄 While working on heeling and autosits with Hallie, she decided to take an unexpected 'scooting break.' 😂 Who knew butt-dragging could be a part of obedience training? 🤷♀️🐕 #TrainingTales #PawsomeAntics #HallieTheComedian
Training isn’t just something you do with your dog, it is how you interact with your dog each and every day. It is creating an open line of communication between you and your dog.
