Good Afternoon,
We have a lot of new followers, so welcome! We’re glad you’re here and hope this page helps people learn more about the horse stables here at Eglin AFB (aka Sand & Spur Riding Club (SSRC)).

Gentle reminder that all the horses at SSRC are privately owned and cared for. Please do not pet, feed, or go into any horses’ paddocks unless you are with the owner. It’s a safety issue for both people and the horses. Our members work very hard to keep everyone at the barn (equine and human) safe.

If you would like to start riding and become a member, please reach out to our Membership Chair. You do not need to own a horse to become a member, and we love new members!

Our President and Membership Chair responded to a call from Security Forces yesterday of an abandoned horse caught north of Eglin. They quickly and selflessly brought a trailer, water, fresh grain, and fresh hay to transport the little guy to a nearby rescue center. Thank you so much Miss Laura and Miss Wanda, for taking time and spending your own resources to help an equine in need.💕🐴

Sparky and Mr. Wonka were the stars of the show at yesterday’s Mayroad Fall Fest. Miss Laura, Miss Melanie, and Shania leant their horses for the afternoon so families could meet the horses, play games, and enjoy the beautiful weather. Thank you to our Pres, VP, and volunteers for helping (both human and equine). And big thank-yous to Miss Kris for our jump sign and Miss Kim for the fall baskets that made the family pictures so special.

📣Eglin is hosting the Mayroad Fall Festival this Friday, 18 Oct from 4-6pm🍁🍂

Our President and Vice President will be there with Cam and Mr. Wonka, and we would like 2-3 volunteers to help handle the horses and manage the crowd.

If you’re interested in volunteering, please message our VP no later than 15 Oct. Hope to see you out there enjoying this amazing fall weather!

Meet the Members! We are excited to welcome Katie and her crew into our barn family!

“Here's a little about me and my family 🙂

I was once a non-horse member back in high school/college, circa 2009-2012. Some members may remember the two boys I took care of, Choice and Jay (owner Karen Baker), down in "C Section." Some of my most favorite memories out at Sand and Spur were trail riding with friends and riding in the bay! I moved to Ocala, FL August 2012 for college. I have degrees in both Equine Business Management and Equine Exercise and Physiology, and after graduating became an assistant farm manager for a farm in Wildwood. We showed Gypsy Vanners in USDF/USEF shows as well as in the Gypsy Vanner Horse Society breed shows. I was even fortunate enough to begin working on my Bronze Medal while working there! I worked there just shy of three years before my husband and I began our family. We moved back to the FWB area to raise our kids, Sam (7), Lucy (4), and Maggie (1.5). Seven years is a long time to go without horses, and I've missed it terribly! I'm so excited and grateful to be back out at a barn that holds so many dear memories, and I'm perhaps even more excited to share my love of horses with my kids!”
