Sparky and Mr. Wonka were the stars of the show at yesterday’s Mayroad Fall Fest. Miss Laura, Miss Melanie, and Shania leant their horses for the afternoon so families could meet the horses, play games, and enjoy the beautiful weather. Thank you to our Pres, VP, and volunteers for helping (both human and equine). And big thank-yous to Miss Kris for our jump sign and Miss Kim for the fall baskets that made the family pictures so special.

📣Eglin is hosting the Mayroad Fall Festival this Friday, 18 Oct from 4-6pm🍁🍂

Our President and Vice President will be there with Cam and Mr. Wonka, and we would like 2-3 volunteers to help handle the horses and manage the crowd.

If you’re interested in volunteering, please message our VP no later than 15 Oct. Hope to see you out there enjoying this amazing fall weather!

Meet the Members! We are excited to welcome Katie and her crew into our barn family!

“Here's a little about me and my family 🙂

I was once a non-horse member back in high school/college, circa 2009-2012. Some members may remember the two boys I took care of, Choice and Jay (owner Karen Baker), down in "C Section." Some of my most favorite memories out at Sand and Spur were trail riding with friends and riding in the bay! I moved to Ocala, FL August 2012 for college. I have degrees in both Equine Business Management and Equine Exercise and Physiology, and after graduating became an assistant farm manager for a farm in Wildwood. We showed Gypsy Vanners in USDF/USEF shows as well as in the Gypsy Vanner Horse Society breed shows. I was even fortunate enough to begin working on my Bronze Medal while working there! I worked there just shy of three years before my husband and I began our family. We moved back to the FWB area to raise our kids, Sam (7), Lucy (4), and Maggie (1.5). Seven years is a long time to go without horses, and I've missed it terribly! I'm so excited and grateful to be back out at a barn that holds so many dear memories, and I'm perhaps even more excited to share my love of horses with my kids!”

We are excited to host Tiny Acres NWFL, Inc. on May 25th for a wonderful opportunity to learn about basic equine emergency care. This clinic is open to anyone with access to Eglin AFB, and if you sign up, your family members can audit the clinic for free! There is an audit option on the sign-up link. Please sign up ASAP, as we will have to cancel if we don't get enough participants.
Snacks and drinks will be provided, along with a Basic equine emergency kit that you get to keep! All proceeds benefit Tiny Acres Equine Rescue. You don't have to have a horse to benefit from this, and if you have a horse but don't board at Sand and Spur, you are more than welcome to attend. Click link below to register:

We are so lucky to have so many new members joining us! Please welcome Lauren, Frank and Lily! 🐎

"Hey everyone, my name is Lauren and I’m new to Sand and Spur with my mare, Lily. Lily is a 12yo thoroughbred who was foaled right here in FL, and I think she’s loving being back. I’ve ridden both English and Western disciplines but have been mostly riding English as an adult. I started riding when I was about 5 and have loved it ever since. My husband, Frank, loves horses too and we’re excited to be joining the club."

Three of our members attended the Dixie Gulf Arabian Horse Association Show yesterday and brought home more hardware!!
Sydnie Burrus's Arab Wilma and SSRC member Aidan placed first in halter and third in showmanship. This was Aiden's first show!
Cloey Coates and Colton placed first in halter and got another first for good grooming, at their first show after a 5 year break. They plan on doing more rated shows in the future.
Way to go! 🤠

Please welcome our new member, Laura Ingold- Busting out of quarantine on Monday! 🎉

“Greetings! My name is Laura and like most others I’ve followed my husband’s career all over the country. I have Biggie Smalls (Shetland) and Pony a good ole mix pony. Biggie is a rescue and had an abusive life before me. I’ve had him 7 years and he has come a long way. He also has his entire trachea collapsed. So, please don’t fret when you hear him breathing. Pony was just abandoned at a barn in Ocala and is the most loving and bratty pony. Anytime we’re out please feel free to stop by. We’re excited to make new friends! “

Save the date for May 25! Tiny Acres will be coming to Sand And Spur with a first aid clinic. They will provide lunch and a first aid kit along with a valuable clinic, including info on vitals, wrapping, triage, medicating, colic and choke.
Tiny Acres NWFL, Inc. is an equine rescue and proceeds will benefit the animals in their care. 💕

It's time to Meet some more Members!

Lauren and her family (parents: Hayley & Daniel) moved to the area this past summer. They joined the Sand & Spur Club as non horse-owning members shortly after realizing Eglin AFB has horse stables! Lauren is a horse lover through and through and she loves every minute she gets to spend helping brush, bathe, and groom horses. She is thrilled when she gets to ride! Hayley & Daniel are thankful for so many friendly people who have welcomed them and allowed Lauren to help take care of & ride their horses.
