About Devotion to Dogs:
Ben Davidson was training dogs in the San Diego area for 15 years prior to starting Devotion to Dogs. He founded Devotion to Dogs in January 2015, shortly after he attended Northridege Animal Behavior College. A Devotion to Dogs certified trainer will assess your dog(s) in a structured environment within our facility. Our facility is equipped with in-home replication, prop

er exercise requirements, availability to all breeds of dogs, as well as multiple personnel for testing all possible behaviors your dog could have. We will communicate with you about the energy and foundation from what we see during the appointment. We will immediately begin to offer you solutions to the unwanted behaviors we are observing. Before you leave, we will recommend possible tools to use with your dog, depending on the solutions we come up with. About Ben Davidson: Growing up, my family had five dogs. As far back as I can remember, I was playing with the dogs and watching how they interacted with each other and people. I began watching dog shows and learning about different breeds. During this time I grew to love the relationship between a boy and his dog. I learned it was truly a relationship of love, respect, and trust. This was the purest relationship I had experienced. I learned that dogs are more than just dogs. They are companions that can give you a rewarding, fulfilling life. They are there when you are sad, they are there when you are happy, they know when to give you space, and know exactly when not to when properly trained. I have learned that they have a very different way of communicating. Over the years, and all the time I have spent with dogs, I learned to read and understand them, which gives me the ability to communicate what is being said or not being said in every situation. My job is to observe what is happening with your dog and translate exactly what they are trying to tell you with their behavior in any given situation. Just imagine how peaceful your life could be with a pet that understands your direction and commands. My goal is to make sure quality of life for you and your family, dogs included, is the best it can be and to keep dogs from going to the shelters simply because of language barriers. I started training so I could educate and rehabilitate owners and their dog(s) making life better one lesson at a time. While I can help you meet any training goals you may have, the type of training I specialize in is behavioral. Most owners don’t realize their dog may require behavioral training. Behavior training can be anything from basic commands such as sit, stay, come to aggression towards other dogs or people. I set the foundation that helps correct ANY behavior problem.

Posting for Someone who really needs some help!

Ever wanted to own a malinois but don’t like their looks? Meet ROCCO!
Rocco is my foster of 2.5 years (now 3.5y old). He is a Border Collie/heeler cross, neutered, microchipped, and insured. He had my full commitment but my life has changed to the point where his needs are no longer met and he started to turn on my own dog who was his patient buddy and mentor all along, to the point where I cannot have them in the same room anymore.
Rocco had a rough start as a covid puppy with a novice owner and ended up on craigslist a year later where I found him. He is a very high drive dog with incredible talent for anything I throw at him and did not do well in the apartment he was raised in. He has made a LOT of progress in the last couple of years, became a stellar ranch dog (I’m a horse trainer), is started in nosework and ready for his ORT, knows how to use a treadmill, swims, tracks, does basic agility, will bike, jog, trail ride with you, knows a few tricks and about 50 commands, crate and kennel trained, ball and jolly ball hound, and has a velcro personality and magnificent ears. He’s a goofy fun dog, as long as his mental and physical needs are fulfilled.
Now for the tricky stuff. He’s people and dog reactive and selective, resource guarding, noise sensitive, territorial, male dominant, has issues with being examined/handled (but gotten MUCH better), high hunt drive, needs a lot of structure, but loyal and loveable velcro personality if managed correctly. This is a WORKING dog for someone with the right lifestyle, who cannot handle a busy household and needs space to exist.
Search & Rescue, tracking, nosework, are his callings, he is highly trainable, super obedient, and so deserving of a great life. Please share and help me get him the life he deserves!

Socializing is not what you think.

It’s learning proper manners before anything.

See dogs so often ruined by just putting them together.

Puppy’s need to learn to trust and read the room.

Can’t do that when you just put them around digs that can’t read the dog or pups feelings.

Stable dogs create other stable dogs.

Would you want a kid just to hang out and do any behavior?

No!

You want them to learn to be polite and have manners.

Treat dogs the same.

April the yellow lab chow mix came in for severe dog and human aggression, she is doing amazing in both fronts.

She is a board and train who has been here for three weeks.

I’m so pleased that she is doing so well.

She lets people pet her now and she can be around digs without attacking!

Restraint while saying the dogs name like in this video creates a faster recall.

I’m doing it now why my pups are young to make sure that when I can them they come fast.

Sometimes behavior modification is very quick for seeing results, not always.

Just because I create this doesn’t mean it’s fixed.

Takes up to a year for the brains neural network to change and 21 days to start building new habits.

I build a foundation that can be kept up with to make long lasting change.

This dog was possessive and would guard food, the black-and-white one.

Understanding why the dog is thinking that way makes it easy for me to change the association.

Having a bowl makes the dog more possessive, this way I can make it less possessive and change the association.

With time these dogs will eat next to each other out of bowls or have food on the ground with no issues.

It’s a lot of years of experience to understand this.

Listen to what the owner says when she even drops a piece of food, they fight.

First time having them together in a long time and you see they can do it.

Don’t limit yourself, there are solutions but you have to understand how to do it to be successful.

This another board and train named Lucy, see the cut on her face, she came in on a last minute situation cause her and the shepherd she lives with keep fighting.

She gets triggered and then attacks.

We have to counter condition her stress response so she doesn’t attack anymore.

If not aroused they coexist fine.

Despite the nauseating video, if you can make it you’ll see Mo maintaining sit and stay for a full 5 minutes on from of the dog park. The closed front makes it easy for Mo to learn to stay. The second video shows the box reversed with Mo in a down stay. Much harder for Mo because we are closer to park and the box is open. He pop up once but makes that’s five minutes also. Hi gopher. There are lots of verbal corrections in this video, they are all effective but pay attention to to the end when she wants the ball. Whining, fixation, lip licking, fidgeting are signs of excitement in a dog. Here @josh.raczka coaches the owner on how to use the ball for a reward for expected behaviors! Remember rewards (be they food toys or affection) are REWARDS for living life by the rules! Not bribe’s used to distract from an issue. Notice when she comes to sit she is whining and licking her lips, a well timed verbal correction sends her into a different state of mind and you can see her relax, she even casually glances at Josh and not the ball. Relaxation and focus (which is not the same fixation) are the desired behaviors. That’s when you reward your dog! Come train with us and let us coach you through it! #devotiontodogs
