Please, SHARE IT. Hello, my name is Denise Avalos, and I am from Imperial Valley. I started to help cats since 2020 and my main goal is that Trap, Neuter and Release cats since I don't have a big place for a shelter (so don't ask me if I can take a cat in) I feed cats on streets as well, and only if their are in true danger I go and take the cat. You can also pay at Humane Society if you think I will stay with the money. Just give my name and I will take cats every week. I am currently helping a man that has over 30 cats that need to get fixed but I told him I need donations, he can't afford it. I want to also start trapping at the mall and fix them. I do this on my own time, I work too. I accept food donations and litter. Any donation is welcome. Thank you. Remember, is the community's responsibility too to help cats, not only shelters, they are not super humans. ☺️ Teach your kids to respect animals, is not their fault to be on the streets. siempre pidan actualización del gatito que se dio en adopción, llévelo a domicilio, no confie en perfiles de fb sin foto y esterilicen, el destino del gatito depende de la persona que lo dio en adopción! hay mucha gente mala! tenemos que protegerlos, ellos no tienen voz, nosotros sí!

sabías que una gatita puede tener hasta 4 embarazos en un año y que la mayoria nacen hembras!? por eso es muy importante esterilizar! esteriliza a un callejerito aun que no sea tuyo! salvas vidas! esteriliza hembras, y machos tmb!

It has warmed our hearts to see how many people were doing everything they could to help community cats stay warm in the areas where is got extra, extra cold this last week.

We'd like to encourage everyone to make sure the community cats you are helping and feeding are also spayed and neutered. This ensures that more cats won't have to experience living outdoors and you will not have more and more cats to feed.

Please reach out to local TNR groups in your area to find low cost spay-neuter clinics near you. Many clinics stay busy so it's best to call now to get appointments on the clinic calendar in the new year.

Good afternoon! Just some reminders about normal community cat behavior during weather events. Wind is a huge deterrent for cats to be out and about. Add blistering cold to that and most cats will shelter in place until they need to find food/water. We need to let them do this. It is their survival instincts. Those instincts have been in place for thousands of years. We all worry about our friends outside but sometimes intervening can be a danger to the cats.
You can help them by leaving fresh water many times a day and using the same tips below.

Do not call your cats out. If they are hunkered down, there is a reason for it.

Do not put food in shelters. Cats will not sleep where there is food smell present. Every creature outdoors will be looking for resources. By placing food inside shelters, you may cause the cat to flea and look for other shelter when their normal shelter has been tainted with food smell.

Fresh water is life saving for cats. Go refresh water several times a day, if you are able.

- Also some cats may hunker down for a day or two rather than venture out - this is normal.

-Take a shovel to create a path for the cats or you may need to dig them out if a snowdrift covers the opening to their shelter door.

- If you know of a cat that seeks shelter under a deck, shed, or even under a car to escape the high winds, heavy snow or sleet.....they could get snowed in and trapped. They won’t and can’t dig out.

So, if you don’t know where the cat is, think, “If I was a cat, where would I hunker down?

Mix kitten dry food with cats meals for extra calories, if possible.
Feeding at the high point of the day will give the cats the longest duration before wet food freezes.

Do not mix wet and dry food together in winter months. Dry food freezes but cats often swallow whole.

Remember ping pong balls floating in water bowls keeps the surface moving and delays freezing.

A small spoon of table sugar will also delay freezing.

Very important: Do not dump ice from water bowls at the feeding area. When ice melts, it will create dangerous wet / muddy ground, exposing cats to frigid water.

A tipped ear does not always mean a cat is feral. A tipped ear just indicates that a community cat was spayed or neutered.

Best decision ever! La mejor decision de tu vida!

Have you heard the great news!? June is Adopt-A-Cat Month! To promote this special month and to place even more shelter kitties into loving families, we are reducing our adoption fees by 50% for the entire month of June! 😻 We have several very sweet adult cats at the shelter that are available for adoption, some who have been with us for months and some for years. Also, we currently have several kittens that are in foster homes who will soon be available for adoption.

Once again, we are teaming up with the Feral Cat Coalition (FCC) in San Diego for an entire day of LOW-COST spay and neuter specifically for owned/pet cats and kittens, for only $30*!! 😺 Our trip to FCC is scheduled for Wednesday, June 22nd.

Aside from spay and neuter, other services such as vaccinations, FIV/FeLV testing, parasite preventatives and treatments, and more will be available at additional costs. ***Please note that additional services can only be done at the time of your pet's scheduled spay or neuter appointment.

Our team would like to say THANK YOU to FCC for teaming up with us again to provide this much needed service to our community! We also would like to give a big THANK YOU to Spay And Neuter of the Desert Society (S.A.N.D.S.) for sponsoring half of the cost of this clinic!
