Did a groom today and I'm very pleased with the turnout. The owner has struggled do hard finding someone who can actually work with this dog. She knows I'm not a professional groomer but I do know a few things. And she is ecstatic with her groom and the fact I was actually able to shave the ears.

Not a perfect groom but it will get better in time.

10 puppy training tips from a dog trainer to live a happier life with your pup.

1. Start desensitization with basic care such as nail trims, dental checks, and more. You can do these by touching and wiggling their toes. Checking inside their ears. Lifting their lips to check the mouth slong with opening the mouth. Lift and maneuver the tail.

2. Socializing is key. However socializing does not mean being social. It's more like desensitization the puppy to the world. Loud noises dogs barking or people walking by. Doing this as soon as you get them and continuing for the first year of life is crucial. For every 100 ignored dogs or people they can interact eith 1 new dog or person.

3. Leash training starts early. Start at day one of getting the puppy. Get them comfortable with being on a leash and how to properly walk early on.

4. Kennle training. Now I know whst you may think, kennles are cruel, when actually they are far from it. A puppy needs lots of sleep while growing and plenty of naps. Much like a child. Putting your puppy in a kdnnle allows then the chance to nap. But it also keeps them our of any trouble. Kennling is crucial. It prevents separation anxiety and again keeps your puppy from doing those naughty things.

5. Practice tethering your puppy to your coffee table or somewhere infron of you. It helps teach the puppy how to settle inside the house.

6. Teach door manners by not allowing your puppy to bolt out the door without permission.

7. Take lots of car rides to prevent car anxiety. But drive careful. You wouldn't want to hit the breaks too hard while the puppy is learning their balance this could lead to car anxiety.

8. Do not take your puppy to doggy daycare as this can lead to a very pushy and rude dog.

9. Stay away from dog parks. They are full of unsocialized or over socialized fogs who again are very pushy

10. One of the most important things is to remember your puppy will have many fear periods within their first year. So be patient and remember it gets better with work.

Yes. ✅ Many dogs have social preferences and that needs to be respected. I know some people that have truly social dogs can struggle with this concept as they have no issues with this, and some people judge others by the sociability of their dog.
"They just weren't socialised enough as puppies"
"They need to be more obedient"
"They just need to play more"
"They need to be more dominant when playing"
"They need to just submit"
No, no...and no again.
Just like us, dogs have preferences and some are very strong.
You may have noticed this with a dog that only likes to play with their own breed, or much smaller dogs. Some dogs are drawn to very specific types of dogs or seek out dogs with a particular physical trait.
Some will just refuse to be social with a particular breed as they may struggle to read that particular breeds body language, and they may even act "aggressively" to that breed when that dog attempts an interaction.

Social preferences are also not static.
They can change, so be open to that possibility too.

Another thing I would like to point out is.... there is a bit of a myth out there that reactive dogs only belong in the "not social" category. Some reactive dogs can be really social with others, but they could be leash reactive even to dog breeds or types they may enjoy interacting with off lead.
Just because a dog is reactive does NOT automatically mean they dislike all other dogs.
Even reactive dogs have (and are allowed) to have their own unique preferences.
