Red Horse Equine Therapy Therapeutic Massage for horses

04/01/2022

I hear this a lot! Often if a horse isn't used to body work, it's difficult for them. Usually if a horse hasn't had body work before, it takes a couple of massages before they are comfortable with it.
I worked on a horse monthly for a YEAR before he finally understood massage feels good. Then he would run to the gate when he saw my car!

Imagine how much harder chiropractic is for the horse. It's abrupt and can be painful before it feels better.

Massage before chiropractic helps loosen the muscles and makes the adjustments easier. Massage after chiropractic helps keep everything in place.

Does your horse get regular body work?

This is Dessa, a 5 year old OTTB mare who has been off the track about a year. I massaged her a couple of weeks ago and taped her lumbar, which was really tight. She had a chiropractic adjustment last week, and was out at the withers, which affected the rest of her spine. Once she was back in alignment, I massaged her again and taped to support her spine to keep everything in place and help with pain relief. She was far less reactive after chiro and massage!

This is Royal; he's a 14 year old QH who has just been started under saddle about a month ago. He's doing really well, but his new workload has made him sore. Once a week I go out to tape him. Here we are working on supporting his poll, neck, back and hips. His trainer says he no longer bucks under saddle since he's been taped and that he notices a big difference in his neck. Kinesiology taping is great for injuries and equally amazing for horses in training!

Schedule an appointment for a massage and you'll get $10 off your massage (regular price is $65) and your horse will get a free kinesiology taping!

The benefits of kinesiology taping for horses are relief from pain or pressure, increased circulation, and joint mobility support as well as support of muscle activity. Here is Koda getting some support for his glutes.

Schedule an appointment for a massage and you'll get $10 off your massage and your horse will get a free kinesiology taping!

10 Rules to Live by in Evacuations with Horses (Fire/Tornado/Etc)
By: Colorado Horse Rescue Network

1. TEACH YOUR HORSE TO LOAD (and tie)! And I mean immediately step into a trailer.
2. Take at least one bale of hay and a BUCKET, you never know where your horse is going to end up.
3. No matter what, if you take your horses or not, MAKE SURE you take your proof of ownership/BRAND INSPECTIONS! This will help you prove the horses are yours later on! (Photos work in non brand inspection areas!)
4. If you CANNOT TAKE your horse, TURN THEM LOOSE! They have great survival instincts, its better than dying in a locked barn.
5. IF YOU TURN THEM LOOSE, write your phone number on them in some way! Spay paint/shoe polish, whatever you can find.
6. If you turn them loose TAKE THEIR HALTERS OFF! Imagine all the debris your horse is going to encounter! You don't want them caught on !
7. If you turn them loose, LOCK THEM OUT OF THEIR BARN/PEN/STALL/YARD. They WILL go back!
8. If you take your horse to an evacuation center, it is still a good idea to have your horse marked in some way. Sometimes evacuation centers have to evacuate!
9. If you take your horse in a trailer, PLEASE tie them if you safely can! I cannot count how many times we were evacuating and found a loose horse we needed to load with ours, if the horses are loose in the trailer that is a disaster waiting to happen.
10. If your horse is in a large pasture area, cut the fence in corners and leave gates open! When horses can't find their way in smoke/debris they will follow fence lines.

Always a good reminder to slow down and listen.

Always a good reminder to slow down and listen.

If you are standing next to your horse and he looks away, do you think he's distracted or even disrespectful? When your horse yawns is he sleepy? If he moves slowly, is he lazy?
