I don’t care who is doing better than me. I’m doing better than I was doing yesterday. It’s me vs me! Imagine what 1% improvement each day can do for you in 100 days? I’m on a personal 100 day challenge, to improve my riding 1% each day. Yes, there are setbacks, but I won’t let them define me. Guess what, each setback is a lesson learned….which is an improvement!

The calm before the storm! Today was a rough day. The beginning of the lesson was ok until it took a turn. Not sure exactly how it happened but today was the day! Apache threw one of his fits and got frustrated. Since he couldn’t get away with it he decided to rear. The second I felt him going up I knew this was going to hurt. He couldn’t balance because of his weird angle and fell back…with me on top of him. My head hit the wall and he landed on my leg. This could have been really bad if I had not worn a helmet. The helmet now has a soft spot! Apache got back up and I did too. My head was ringing and my leg hurt.
I took a minute to collect myself and wait for the ringing to dull down and got back on. I rode him a full hour after this. At the beginning he still resisted, but I did not let him get away with it. I was prepared now for the rear and made him bite my boot as soon as he tried. He tried a couple more times, but after that, he was the best and most responsive horse ever! He was waiting for my cues without getting upset. No kicking or rearing at all.
So where that was for sure not my best lesson, it still was my best lesson. We worked through the issue! Sometimes people give up to quickly. Sometimes people switch things up to quickly because things don’t seem to work or get worse. Sometimes, just sometimes, we have to remember that things will get worse before they get better!

Timeline of Flame’s birth:
6pm came back from work and checked on her. She was just standing there.
7pm check: Phoenix was eating. I checked her utter and there was a tiny drop of milk, no wax
8:14 check: Phoenix was laying down
8:15 she got up
8:16 she was resting her foot
8:17 water broke
-I ran to the house to get everyone-
8:20 back and first hoof sticking out and Phoenix was down
8:21 leg sticking out
8:23 second foot out and she laid back down
8:25 head out
I went in and cleared Flame’s nose
8:26 only one more leg in
8:27 Flame was out

The whole birth happened in 10 minutes! I will be forever thankful that the whole family got to experience that moment ❤️ and yes, I have it all on video…from water breaking to Flame’s first steps
