Can you believe this guy is still available? Someone is missing out on a NICE horse.

Available in Oxford, PA - Eligble for Recover at Home Program (see below)

Naked and Famous is a gorgeous, 6 year old, 16+ hand, bay gelding that came to us in partnership with Beyond the Wire in Maryland. He has a big white face and a sweet temperament and is retiring after 19 races. This fancy boy is by Upstart and out of a Stormy Atlantic mare. He sold for $65,000 as a weanling!

This sweet guy retired with a very minor bowed tendon. Recent scans from the track and an intake evaluation with our vet showed he'll be ready for an unlimited second career after he's had time to heal. His tendon was already cold and he was already sound jogging in hand when he arrived to ATR. Subsequent ultrasounds have all shown great and easy progress. Our vet is very excited for his future.

Naked and Famous was a very easy horse to get through his stall rest and hand walking phase. He's now turned out in a pasture with other geldings and should be ready to return to work in April or May after one more ultrasound. This guy is very sensible, level-headed, and super sweet. He's one worth considering for the Recover at Home program if you have room and time to give one special horse!

Naked and Famous has shown no vices, is very sweet, and is not expected to have any limitations once his tendon heals. Horses like him don't come along often!

We recently got an update on She's So Fly who came to ATR directly from her owners and connections at the Fair Hill Training Center. "Sophie" ended up all the way out in Kentucky with her adopter Chloe. She adopted her to do lower level dressage and trail riding. They've been heading out on the trails now that she's had the time to grow up a little and she looks like she's enjoying it!
Here was her update in her words:
"Happy adoptaversary to Sophie!
She came to us as a gangly, barely 4 year old, but over the past year she has really blossomed and grown into a gorgeous mare. I didn't push her a lot this past year, and just let her mature both physically and mentally, but she is showing me that she’s ready to go back to work this year and hit the trails more!
She is such a sweet horse, she enjoys resting her head in my arms and is always down for a good scratch, and I love watching her play with her herdmates out in the field. Sometimes too smart for her own good, like when one of our fence chargers went down and she noticed before we did and would shimmy herself under the tape to reach the better grass - always staying near the other horses, just on the other side of the fence 😂
Here’s to many more years with our favorite chestnut mare ❤️❤️"
We're thrilled for her and can't wait to see what other adventures they get into!

After the Races is gearing up to move! While we still have time, we are quickly getting things in place to prepare to leave our rental and make the *permanent* farm move-in ready for the horses.

We could use your help and you can help quickly by donating top-needed items off our Amazon Wish List here:
https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/1EDVS7F1WWKIS?ref_=wl_share

If you would like to volunteer specifically to help with the move:

1. Be local, both farms are on opposite sides of Fair Hill in MD, 15 min apart
2. Message saying you specifically want to help with the move and ask for Bonnie as she'll likely be working on things outside of normal hours and can coordinate.

As always, thank you! ATR would not be here without the amazing support from our volunteers, donors, partners, and supportive fans.

There's a (sometimes very real) joke about only getting horses that are the same color so the significant others don't notice. 😂

Indy's Golden Girl and Duckpins both went to their new home in Virginia on Saturday where their adopter will find out what direction they would like to go in, whether it's eventing, fox hunting, dressage, or any combination!

Congratulations!

We recently got an update on News Makin who came to ATR through our partnership with Aftercare Charles Town - Equine Encore Performance at Charles Town. Lisa in Delaware adopted her and she has settled right into her role as a lesson horse. She does a little bit of everything, including hunters and eventing!

Here was her update in her words:

"Dreamer JC News Makin did her very first show and ended with Reserve Champion in their division [beginner hunter equitation]!! 🐴💗"

We're so happy to see her thriving in her new home!

Overdue unboxing video!

My Sister Pam and Dan the Man Can both arrived earlier this week and came to us in partnership with Aftercare Charles Town. You can tell in the video one came before the snow melted and one after even though they were just days apart!

Pam is a 6 year old mare who retired a year ago with a bowed tendon and was rehabbed fully at another farm, and Daniel reportedly retired sound but with incredibly long feet, so he was getting time at another farm to work on those feet before arrival at ATR.

For pedigree buffs, Pam is by Upstart and out of a mare by Bop meaning she has some greats like Flatter, AP Indy, Touch Gold, and Rahy all in her pedigree. Meanwhile, Daniel is by Can the Man and out of a Half Ours mare, meaning he's a grandson of Into Mischief with Harlan's Holiday, Unbridled's Song, and Maria's Mon a few generations back.

These two aren't expected to have any limitations but we'll post more once our vet evaluates them. Stay tuned!

Available in Oxford, PA:

PracticallyMine is a 4 year old, 16+ hand, bay gelding that came to us in partnership with New Start for Horses. He raced 26 times. He was bred in Kentucky and is by Practical Joke and out of a Storm Cat mare. While most people know Storm Cat, Practical Joke brings Harlan's Holiday and Distorted Humor into his pedigree.

This cool guy had a minor tendon injury, presumably around the time of his last workout October 4th, 2024. When our vet saw him he was already sound. She took an ultrasound and said it was incredibly mild. She said he had an unlimited future ahead of him once he gets his time off!

PracticallyMine has since completed all his stall rest and controlled exercise. He's now turned out with other horses and getting to be a horse for a while before going back to work. He should be ready for under saddle work in the spring and as long as you take your time, he won't have any long-term limitations!

We recently got an update on Never Gone South, who came to ATR through our partnership with Beyond the Wire . Her adopter Kyra in Maryland had a very successful and busy show season with her in 2024! They're looking forward to see how there season goes this year and so are we.

Here's what Kyra had to say:

"It’s been a while since I’ve posted an update but Boston (JC Never Gone South) had an amazing season this year!! We ended up 9th on the USEA BN Adult Rider leaderboard, 3rd on the Area 2 BN Adult Rider leaderboard, and Boston was the top Area 2 Thoroughbred for BN!! A few highlights from this year include our first trip to AECs, an FOD at Area 2 Championships, 2nd individually in the BN Waredaca Classic 3-Day, T.I.P. Champion and Best Conditioned Horse BN Waredaca Classic 3-Day, and an FOD at our first ever Novice HT at Full Moon Farm to finish off the year. We’ve had some downtime to reset after an incredible season but I’m already ready for March to come and the 2025 season to start!!"

We were very thankful to get such an outstanding update and wish them continued success as we head into show season this year.

Haven't had an unboxing video in a while! Meet East Aurora, a 2021 gelding who came to us in patnership with New Start for Horses out of Penn National.

He's a handsome boy who came to us to finish rehabbing a suspensory injury. He's settled in pretty quickly and seems like a good boy. Stay tuned to the website for more information as we get him evaluated by our vet!

His tendon was already cold and he was already sound jogging in hand when he arrived to ATR. Our vet is very excited for his future.

Especially for being on stall rest, this guy is very sensible, level-headed, and super sweet. He is currently in the hand walking stage of his rehabilitation (goes on a walker nicely, and walks nicely around the shedrow). He's one worth considering for the Recover at Home program if you have room and time to give one special horse!

Naked and Famous has shown no vices, is very sweet, and is not expected to have any limitations once his tendon heals. Horses like him don't come along often! He'll be getting a new ultrasound and new update shortly (late January), so stay tuned.

We got an incredible update on Lookin Back, who came to ATR through our partnership with Aftercare Charles Town - Equine Encore Performance at Charles Town. Her adopter Lisa in Delaware was quite busy with her last year. From Eventing to Hunters, she's been excelling in the show ring!

Here's what Lisa had to say:

"Stormy JC Lookin Back walked away with not one but TWO Champion Ribbons today!!! She was Champion Greenhorn Horse and High Point Thoroughbred for the entire series (all divisions 😭😭) for the St Augustine Pony Club!! We also won Adult Rider Reserve Champion too!! Yesterday I found out she also won TIP Green Thoroughbred at the local hunter show we did last weekend too!! Thank you so much for this amazing mare, I knew she was the one the moment I saw her ❤️❤️"

We're so happy for their success in 2024 and look forward to hearing more about their progress together in 2025!

Get Them Digits is a 5-coming-6 year old, 16.1+ hand, grey gelding who came to us in partnership with Beyond the Wire in Maryland. He raced a total of 18 times and is by Dialed In and out of a Cee's Tizzy mare.

Digits has a knee that has previously had surgery and ultimately ended his racing career. He got a lot of rest, TLC, and special treatments to help his knee settle and his most recent evaluation showed him sound on a hard, flat surface and ready for turnout and return to work!

Digits is looking for a pleasure or trail type home (no jumping). Like many horses on layup, he was starting to get a bit up toward the end of his rehabilitation but now that he has been turned out he has mellowed tremendously! We hope that he'll be suitable mentally for a lower key job. As we've not been able to sit on him yet due to weather and conditions on the farm this time of year, he'd likely do great with someone with a lot of experience who is happy to put miles on him while ultimately just wanting a horse to enjoy and live the easy life with.

Digits has no vices but does need to be fed on the ground due to having tie back surgery. It's caused him no problems in all the months he's been with us. He does also eat hay out of a hay hut (large bales) out in the field without any issues.

Due to his limitations he does have a lower adoption fee and that and other information can be found on our website here: https://www.aftertheraces.org/thoroughbred-horses/get-them-digits
