Voiceless Moments Dog Sanctuary

Voiceless Moments Dog Sanctuary We specialize in medically disabled and senior dogs. We provide all necessary medical care and provide a loving environment until the end of their days.

Due to the rising population of stray and abandoned dogs, we do help the community in taking small dogs under 25 lbs in on a case by case basis. There must be a foster available to house a larger dog. If an owner cannot be located, we will vet and adopt out (if they don’t meet the sanctuary criteria to stay).

Today, we are filled with warmth and compassion as we welcome Noah, a charming 15-year-old Shih Tzu, into our sanctuary. Although we are uncertain about any underlying health issues he may have, our first priority is his well-being. We will be scheduling a comprehensive intake exam soon to ensure we can provide Noah with the best possible care, keeping him happy and healthy.

Noah has come to us under bittersweet circumstances; his previous owner, who loved him dearly, is facing serious health challenges and anticipates undergoing major medical procedures. Understandably, she feels that her condition may prevent her from caring for Noah as he deserves. It is heart-wrenching to see such a bond affected by life's trials, but we are committed to honoring that love.

Noah has experienced warmth and affection in his previous home, and we aim to continue showering him with the same care and kindness for the rest of his days. Let us embrace Noah as a cherished member of the Voiceless Moments family, ensuring he feels safe and loved during this new chapter in his life. Welcome, Noah!

We have had a hard week. First Maggie succumbs to her age related illnesses and now Zeeke as well. As rescuers of senior and disabled, we know our time is short with our residents, but that doesn’t prepare us for the sadness of losing one. Zeeke succumbed to his age related illnesses eases and was rendered immobile. He had quit eating. Our veterinarian deemed that humane euthanasia was the only course of action left for Zeeke. Zeeke crossed the rainbow bridge 🌈 this morning surrounded by those who loved him. Rest now Zeeke, you are no longer in pain and we believe you will see your lifelong daddy waiting for you.

Max came to our family in 2012. He came from an abusive family at 1 year old. In 2013 he was diagnosed with Immunologic Hemolytic Anemia. He was treated for the next five years until the medication damaged his liver. He was taken off the medication to allow his liver to heal. He is 14 years old now....

Another scare last night… Walter had an allergic reaction to what we now know was a bee sting. He was stung on his lip. Thank goodness he only had facial swelling and no breathing issues. Thank you Mineral Wells for the guidance. All he needed was some steroids and a Benadryl. The photo on the left is his poor little face alll swollen up. You have to remember, Walter has stunted growth because of his poor breeding and health conditions. His normally small face swelled to the size of a normal size French Bulldog.

Moe’s cough was worsening so we got him right in to the vet. He has an enlarged heart, a heart murmur, fluid back up from the heart problems, and bronchitis. His intake exam was set to be Friday, but this couldn’t wait. He got x-rays and bloodwork done and is set to go back in a month for a recheck. He has been put on heart, fluid, and cough meds for now.

We come to you with sadness in our hearts today. We only had Maggie for a short while, but we considered her a part of our family and will miss her dearly. Maggie crossed over the rainbow bridge this morning. She was surrounded by people that loved her.

We know these days will come when we take in our senior and disabled animals. We push forward with our residents until the end. We can give our residents love and compassion freely, but we could not provide such specialized care without our public's support. Please consider donating in Maggie's honor, so that we may continue to help others that come our way.

Cleaning up after a nice supper....

Now that we've had a little time to settle in, here's the backstory on Moe.

Moe was found with a companion. Moe weighs in at 8 pounds and his companion was only 3 pounds, a chihuahua like Moe. They were both found out in the middle of no where, with no houses in sight, in the middle of a field by a road mowing crew. They were taken to the animal shelter just over the state line in Mississippi. Both Moe and his companion are estimated to be around 14 years old. We reached out to the shelter and found out how devastating their animal problems are down there. Moe and his companion were two of 176 animals in a 75 bay animal shelter. Moe and his companion were fit into a foster home with other dogs. They were both well taken care of and the individuals at the Mississippi shelter are so nice and welcoming. Over the course of two weeks we shared several correspondence and made arrangements to pick up Moe and his companion so that they could live the rest of their lives in solitude amongst dogs their age. The shelter down south is a no kill shelter, but with everything that was going on and the onslaught of animals pouring through the doors, euthanasia was put on the table. Late this past weekend we received a call from their transfer specialist that Moe's companion had went to bed the previous night and died in his sleep. We knew we had to get down there and get Moe. Now he was left without his companion and was surely going to miss him. We drove down yesterday morning and met the wonderful people down in Mississippi and laid our eyes for the first time on sweet little Moe. He is such a little gentleman. Moe laid quietly in my lap the entire trip back, enjoying cuddles the whole time. We did slow introductions with the pack back here at the sanctuary, and in no time it was like he had always been here. He has already bonded well with all of the other dogs and has taken up residency in my husband's recliner. Moe has a rather harsh cough right now. We are getting him into the vets next week for an intake exam and check up to make sure nothing is serious. If everything comes back good, he will be neutered as well at a later time. Please continue to follow us for more about Moe and how he is getting along in our little sanctuary here in Erin, TN.
