Voiceless Moments Dog Sanctuary We specialize in medically disabled and senior dogs. We provide all necessary medical care and provide a loving environment until the end of their days.

Due to the rising population of stray and abandoned dogs, we do help the community in taking small dogs under 25 lbs in on a case by case basis. There must be a foster available to house a larger dog. If an owner cannot be located, we will vet and adopt out (if they don’t meet the sanctuary criteria to stay).

Walter had his wellness exam. Walter also had a mass on his front leg examined. Thank goodness it was only joint fluid. Walter did have x-rays of his back done to see if there were any noticeable changes. Walter does have one spot that they found suspicious. He has a congenital defect of one of his vertebrae. Dr. Chad said that it could cause problems down the road and develop into IVDD. We will need to watch it closely. Dr. Chad did say that it was in the thoracic vertebrae, which is a better scenario than if it was in his lumbar vertebrae (lower back). Dr. Chad has recommended that Walter get his stenotic nares (nostrils), that restricts Walter’s breathing , surgically opened. His surgery is scheduled for September 23rd. This will open up his airways and make it less of a struggle for Walter to breathe. We will keep you updated on his progress.

Everyone knows it's that time of the year--Halloween preparation and Pumpkin Spice Lates. Walter is not as excited as we are about Halloween because that means...costumes. We will be holding a Halloween Contest. Problem...because of Facebook business page settings, we cannot accept photos in the comments section without allowing everyone to post posts to the page. Therefore, we will be having individuals send the following in a message to our page:

-photo of pet in costum
-name of pet(s)

We will be accepting photos for the month of September and post all photos in a single post at the end of September so others may vote the month of October. Please send the information above in a message to our page.

Sophia was spayed this past Wednesday. She is doing really well, except that she has worked a small part of her external incision (which is surgically glued together) open. This is not an emergency and happens quite frequently. She is such a big girl and has a definite sasha when traversing the house and dog yard. Although we limit her movement, sometimes just everyday moving around can work a spot loose. We have bandaged the incision and put a t-shirt on to secure the dressing. We will keep a close eye on the incision in the coming days, and if anything gets worse we will take her straight to the vets. As you can tell in the photos, she is not very amused with her new outfit, but she would like to remind you--Treat others as you wish to be treated, animals and humans alike!

We would like to thank our anonymous donor from Cuddly. This awesome, caring individual donated food, treats, and living items to our sanctuary dogs. Walter really loved helping me unpack everything. We would not be able to do what we do without the support of our community. Thank you so much.

Sophia's spay went well. She is recovering well after her surgery. She is leaving her incision alone (Which is why you see her with no "cone of shame.") As with any surgery, we do have to put Winston in the "cone of shame." He doesn't think us humans can attend to the surgery site quick like he can. To prevent him from licking the surgery site, he has to don his party hat.

We have Sophia at the vets today for her spay. She will no longer have to worry about being overbred again. We will let you know how she is doing once we pick her up this afternoon.

Sophia is doing so well. She is now playing with the many dog toys we have and has no problems with the other dogs being around when playing. She is such a good girl.

We are doing some prospecting. Who here in Houston County would want to participate in a microchipping event. We would microchip your pet for $10.00. The microchips that we use are the smallest needles on the market. Owners would be given the paperwork to register their pet on their own. There is a fee to register the pet, which is a $19.99 annual subscription. All microchipping registration sites charge a registration fee. Fetch-ID (Nano Microchipping) is among one of the cheapest.

Walter lives his life as best he can considering his disabling medical conditions. Walter has severe gastrointestinal issues. At the early age of 9 months it was determined that he had pyloric dysfunction, which causes him to regurgitate his stomach contents. This makes him at risk for aspiration pneumonia. He has been put on a liquid diet to aid digestion. He takes several medications and supplements to help keep food down and eats from a slow-feed bowl to help prevent regurgitation.

Recently we had a genetic health test done on Walter. French Bulldogs are known for certain health conditions and we want to be as prepared as possible. We discovered that Walter carries the genetic markers for Chondrodystrophy and Intervetebral Disk Disease (IVDD). This means that Walter will have a long battle with disk and back issues. We are starting a proactive approach to his care and have scheduled him for a preliminary work up. On average surgery for these conditions can cost $8,000 to $10,000. Please find it in your hearts to contribute to Walter’s medical treatments, examinations, medications, and follow up care.

This is the direct results of a bad breeding situation. Walter and a sibling were rescued from such a situation. He has suffered from several problems due to his mother being overbred and lack of medical checks.

You can make a difference by donating today to Voiceless Moments Dog Sanctuary and Rescue.
We are here to aid disabled and senior dogs that are under 25 pounds. We serve the public by providing food to those in financial hardships. Our main goal is to help keep the dog in its loving home. If this is not possible, we will take the dog into our care for the entirety of its life.

A GoFundMe fundraiser has been setup for Walter’s must needed medical care. The link to that fundraiser is:
