HELP! SUGAR BEAR had to be admitted to an emergency vet over the weekend because he's having severe trouble urinating!! Unfortunately, our regular vet does not offer after-hour calls, so we have a huge price to pay for this, even while we await his status... They are estimating the fee will be $600-$800!!!

We are only a small family-run shelter with no full-time monetary support sponsors and this is going to hurt our remaining year's funds dramatically... If you can give anything to help us deal with this shocking bill.... please consider it. Every single dollar counts and would make a huge difference in our ability to keep this no-kill shelter running.

If you need help donating or want to send a check, please message us.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL YOUR LOVE AND SUPPORT!!!

This is Barney, he is Winters brother however he's been outside for the first six months of his life. We were able to capture him last week and he's on his way to a new life. We hope to reunite him with his brother in our house in a few weeks.

If any of you that are my friends already. Get a friend request. Just ignore it.I only have one account and you all know me I will not be sending any friend requests right now. Some of my friends say they are getting friend requests. I have reported this to Facebook. They sent me an email and they tell me they believe it's me so I don't know if they know what they're doing. Thank you everyone for your support.

💔💔💔 If you've been following us closely, you'll know this has been one of the most difficult years ever. As a specialty shelter that takes in cats other shelters would put down - due to rare illnesses, co-morbidities, behavior issues, etc. - we do our best to let these cats experience a loving "home" where they can live out the rest of their days in peace and company.

We have lost more cats this year than ever before, and it seems like the bad news keeps coming. Not even a few months after our beautiful Sugar left for the Rainbow Bridge, we had to say goodbye to our beloved fluffball, Robin.

Out of nowhere, Robin became gravely ill. He was struggling to survive these past few weeks, and his health rapidly declined to the point where we had to make an impossible decision. After numerous veterinary visits and tests, it was determined that he had an inoperable tumor that was causing him immense suffering. We started him on multiple medications that might have (emphasis on MIGHT) extended his life a little bit (maybe a few months, only). Unfortunately, he declined so rapidly that we were stuck with no other option but to help him cross the rainbow bridge so he would not endure more pain and suffering.... We fought for him until the last moment.

His veterinary expenses are currently over $500, with his end-of-life aftercare expenses adding to that already hulking number we are having trouble processing.

If you can give anything toward his final expenses, it would help us immensely. If not, please kindly like and share this post so perhaps other animal lovers may find it. Please message us if you'd rather send donations a different way.

We are doing all we can during this taxing year. It hurts our hearts, and we are so very tired. We also hope you and your family are safe during the upcoming hurricane. It has been tough for many of us, but someone needs to help these furbabies - some have nowhere else to go.

Update on Robin, unfortunately The vet thinks Robin Has an ear Tumor. There isn't really a cure for it.But she is trying some prednisolone to see if it might help.If it does this might give Robin a few more months. He is still at the clinic. We will know more tomorrow .

Hi, Friends! In the last few days, we've been dealing with a terrible wave of stomach illness affecting several of our cats, including Sugar Bear and Shorty. They were vomiting and had very severe diarrhea.

We have taken them both to the vet and they were diagnosed with an unknown stomach bug. The vet said it could possibly be airborne, but we are a rural shelter where our animals get minimal contact with outside, unvaccinated/sick pets so this could be a new virus going around. BE AWARE it seems especially CONTAGIOUS. Other cats are already showing symptoms and we are working closely with our vet to alleviate them.

This being said, treating these two already has cost us hundreds of dollars, and this year has been so hard on us. I am sure you've heard about all the shelter overpopulation lately. It's so difficult for us to care for these animals long-term, especially when hit hard by a virus like this - completely out of nowhere!

If you can give anything toward their veterinary bills, we would absolutely appreciate it. Please like and share this post, even if you cannot. Thank you for all your support and kindness.

Finally! The lights are on! After nearly 2 days of a power and phone outage. The temperature was near 90 degrees🥵. it's hard enough to take care of yourself in a power outage in the heat ,but when you have to care for a lot of animals it makes it twice as difficult. We are really NEEDING D batteries for fans for the cats each use 6 batteries ! Have to be prepared for the next power outage. (Which we get frequently here.)If you would like to help with that, we would greatly appreciate it.
I've added them to our Amazon wish list. Also, with a fan and a couple other items we could use.

This week has been crazy. Between tending to some other cats' health conditions, running them to the vet, and trying to keep everyone safe and cool during this terrible heat wave, our shelter experienced a sudden loss.

Our friend, Sugar, passed away suddenly from heart failure. We never saw it coming and we feel terrible...

His story: Sugar was found in a demolished house in 2006 at only 2-weeks old. His littermate was adopted but he unfortunately sustained health issues that made him stay with us long-term. He was one of our first permanent shelter residents.
