Hi, Friends! In the last few days, we've been dealing with a terrible wave of stomach illness affecting several of our cats, including Sugar Bear and Shorty. They were vomiting and had very severe diarrhea.

We have taken them both to the vet and they were diagnosed with an unknown stomach bug. The vet said it could possibly be airborne, but we are a rural shelter where our animals get minimal contact with outside, unvaccinated/sick pets so this could be a new virus going around. BE AWARE it seems especially CONTAGIOUS. Other cats are already showing symptoms and we are working closely with our vet to alleviate them.

This being said, treating these two already has cost us hundreds of dollars, and this year has been so hard on us. I am sure you've heard about all the shelter overpopulation lately. It's so difficult for us to care for these animals long-term, especially when hit hard by a virus like this - completely out of nowhere!

If you can give anything toward their veterinary bills, we would absolutely appreciate it. Please like and share this post, even if you cannot. Thank you for all your support and kindness.

Finally! The lights are on! After nearly 2 days of a power and phone outage. The temperature was near 90 degrees🥵. it's hard enough to take care of yourself in a power outage in the heat ,but when you have to care for a lot of animals it makes it twice as difficult. We are really NEEDING D batteries for fans for the cats each use 6 batteries ! Have to be prepared for the next power outage. (Which we get frequently here.)If you would like to help with that, we would greatly appreciate it.
I've added them to our Amazon wish list. Also, with a fan and a couple other items we could use.

This week has been crazy. Between tending to some other cats' health conditions, running them to the vet, and trying to keep everyone safe and cool during this terrible heat wave, our shelter experienced a sudden loss.

Our friend, Sugar, passed away suddenly from heart failure. We never saw it coming and we feel terrible...

His story: Sugar was found in a demolished house in 2006 at only 2-weeks old. His littermate was adopted but he unfortunately sustained health issues that made him stay with us long-term. He was one of our first permanent shelter residents.

I know there's been a lot of sad news lately from us, but the truth is that we are exhausted and utterly heartbroken each and every single time Rays of Hope Inc. loses an animal we fought to save.

After a recent health update on Tw***ie (or as he liked to be called: Sir Tw***ie), his health rapidly deteriorated. He was given an injection for pain and then began having frequent seizures for over 2 days. He was given seizure-controlling medication but it wasn't having any effect.

He was taken to the vet multiple times and left overnight, too, so that he'd be in full-time care and we at the shelter could rest just a little bit. The vet suspected he may have had a brain tumor.

Unfortunately, we went in to visit Tw***ie again this morning and the vet told us the sad news that he was having seizures all the while... After about 3 days of non-stop care, medication, and his continued suffering through seizures, we had to make the painful decision to let him cross the rainbow bridge... We NEVER EVER take this decision lightly and we often try to allow animals a natural death as long as they are comfortable, but this was not the case for poor Tw***ie...

It hurts us all. Every. Time.

He was only 7 years old and came under our care around the age of 4.

Donations to help pay for his medical expenses are greatly appreciated. We've rung up almost 3 full days of emergency care and medications and are going to need all the help we can get.

Thank you for reading.

🐱HAPPY FRIDAY, ALL! 🐱 IMPORTANT UPDATE on TW***IE.
He had a seizure this morning and is currently still at the vet's office awaiting a diagnosis...

While we have worked with numerous wonderful animal lovers over the years, few know we are a 100% NO-KILL, SANCTUARY FOR LIFE shelter. This means that cats in our care are granted something many shelters simply cannot: safety, love, and stability until their journey to the rainbow bridge. This is also why we cannot regularly accept new animals. Many of our resident cats have long-term illnesses that require specialized care, and they cannot thrive in a traditional home setting.

We truly love each and every animal in our care, and while this makes it difficult (and heartbreaking) to see them go, it also gives us pride in our work to know that we are providing love for cats who have nowhere else to go.

One of these dear cats is Tw***ie - who was recently diagnosed with feline arthritis. It is a painful, incurable condition that requires expensive medication regularly, for him to live a happy, pain-free life. This is where YOU come in. Tw***ie would love to have you as a monthly sponsor of his needs, or you can even give a one-time gift to help him along the way by donating on this post.

If you'd like to sponsor him, please DM us. Please LIKE and SHARE this post to spread the word!
