A heartwarming story by Jim Baker illustrating how one act of kindness can make a difference.

One day, a very friendly gold cat decided that our backyard was the perfect place to have her babies. Concerned for their safety, we brought them inside. The mama cat gave birth to three adorable kittens. Not long after, my granddaughter found an abandoned kitten and asked if we could help. We introduced the tiny kitten to the mama cat, who welcomed her with gentle licks and made her part of the family. We named the new kitten Tina because she was so tiny.

When the kittens were old enough to find new homes, the mama cat found a wonderful lady with a big house and an even bigger heart. Two of the kittens, Otter and Lisa, went to live with my son's fiancée. That left Simon and Tina. My grandson insisted that we keep those two.

Tina and Simon became best friends. Tina has a quirky habit of standing on her hind legs and playfully punching at Simon like a little boxer. It's the funniest thing to watch. Tina also acts as a supervisor whenever we are doing something around the house, whether it's fixing or cleaning. She's the most social cat I've ever had. Tina decided that the outdoors weren't for her, so when her brother goes outside, she finds something else to do until he gets back. Then, they chase each other around the house, filling our home with joy and laughter.

Hello, my name is Tiny. I was given this name at birth because I was the runt of my litter, a title I quickly outgrew as I grew larger. Most days, I am a carefree and easygoing 13-year-old senior cat. You can usually find me lounging on my favorite perch, soaking up the sun in my outdoor catio, or demanding attention from my humans. Life was great—until one day, everything changed.

It was just before Thanksgiving when I woke up from my ninth nap of the day, and nature called. Determined to answer it, I stretched, let out a small yawn, and cried a little just for effect. I began my journey to the litter box, a path I knew well. However, as soon as I started moving, I realized something was wrong. My body began to twitch uncontrollably, my arms, legs, and head trembled and bobbed like a full-bodied bobblehead. Hearing my cries and seeing me sway down the hall, bouncing from wall to wall like a drunken sailor, my mom quickly scooped me up, fearing I was having a serious medical event.

After a visit to the Community Veterinary Center, my mom's fears were eased. The staff observed my unusual behavior and quickly determined that the cause of my illness was not as severe as they had initially feared. After a thorough examination, the doctor discovered that I had a small polyp that had grown into my eardrum, causing me to exhibit signs similar to those of someone who has experienced vertigo.

While this type of injury can usually be easily treated with surgery, it was not an option for me due to my age and other health issues. Thankfully, after a course of medication, more naps, and all the love I could soak up from my humans, I made a full recovery. If you are a senior cat facing similar challenges, or if you just need a veterinarian who will give your pet extra attention, I highly recommend the Community Veterinary Center!
