Dental disease is common in pets, impacting the majority of dogs and cats. Here are some important statistics about pet dental health:

- **Prevalence**: Over 70% of pets show signs of periodontal disease by the age of 3.

- **Common diseases**: In dogs, the prevalent dental issues include gingivitis, plaque and tartar buildup, and periodontitis. For cats, common dental diseases are gingivitis, periodontitis, and tooth resorption.

- **Associated health problems**: Periodontal disease can lead to other chronic health issues, such as heart and kidney disease.

- **Signs of dental disease**: Look for symptoms such as red, irritated gums; dark staining on the teeth; excessive drooling; bleeding; and reluctance to eat or drink.
