If you are a resident and tax-payer of Seminole County, you need to get informed on what's happening at your County Animal Shelter!! This cannot stand!!
To our T.E.A.R.S. friends and supporters, we write you with a heavy heart in desperate need of your voice. It is with great sadness that we tell you our relationship with Seminole County Animal Services has been fractured. As a result of the new management that took over in February 2024, our organization has been pushed out by its leadership and told we are no longer needed to help save the lives of pets in our county. The open door policy SCAS has always had, has been changed. Residents and tax-payers of our county are being turned away when reaching out to our county shelter for help. Residents are being told that SCAS cannot help, and that the shelter is full. By our county ordinances, SCAS is required to take in every animal brought to its haven, and instead, the new management has been breaking that policy under the guise of offering other resources to taxpayers. The shelter has become a mere call center where they help by sending you an email providing you with a list of small rescues in our county to ask for help. These local rescues, often run by volunteers and a shoe-string checkbook, do not have vet staff, facility or a county budget they are operating from. We are on the brink of the relationship with SCAS being completely broken, and those who will suffer are the pets who need our help and the people trying to do good by saving lives. We need you, all of you, to "Show Up & Speak Up" at the Seminole County Commissioners meeting on Tuesday, September 11th. Please help us! We need your voice to advocate for the homeless, stray, and abandoned pets of Seminole County.
We will be posting every day to provide you all updated and information on what is happening to our county. Your support in the form of likes, shares, and comments are incredibly appreciated. Thank you.
