Pheasants... I love em but don't often get more than 10-12 a year. Hopefully I'll see more now that I am newly endorsed by the local game farm A Plus Game birds in Wiggins, CO. Love to collab and help out local businesses.

Season for Colorado opens between October 5th-28th depending on your zone. Looking forward to welcoming all the new orders. Take note that ducks go to 450 after November 1st and shipping opens October 15th. Understand that with the minor price raise, my shop is still very fair and respectable with rates. I don't undercut other shops or try to charge over others. I charge accordingly to my needs and expertise. Good luck out there to my clients.

Duck season for Colorado starts in just 2 months. I want to post a reminder that the shop is not and will not be open weekends. Please plan accordingly for weekday appointments, normally open 10 to 6. My phone will be off weekends during season so that I can be able to rejuvenate and focus as its the most busy time of year. Calls and messages will be returned the next business day.

Currently at the World Taxidermy Championships in Iowa. Competitors don't get to enter the showroom til tomorrow so here's a look at one of the Turkey Taxidermy displays at a booth at the trade show.

There are over 1k people here with more than half that competing. The show room? Over 700 entries are here. It's HUGE!

This season will be starting with a year turnaround when opener hits in October. Know that turnarounds are an estimate. Ive always been ahead of schedule. Ducks are jumping to 450 after November 1st but otherwise everything else stays the same.

Wood ducks are usually the staple for early season in Colorado. Normally a lot of them are molting and no good, but thanks to my field guide that I share each fall and being reasonably strict, the quality of birds and the mounts with that have really improved.

There will be a subtle price change November 1st for ducks, others are staying the same. Prices are based on what I need to run my business and support myself. I could care less what someone else charges... If you do your research for quality work vs penny pinching and getting disappointments back, you can't haggle price. Beggars can't be choosers, we need to be paid for our time and expertise. I invest in attending shows to improve the quality of my work every year and in turn can command better prices and attract the best clientele....which I am blessed with really amazing clients.

I also do have room for local birds, with turnaround sitting at 13 months at this time.

A great example of not every bird is built the same. This absolute hulk of a pintail ate up a large "pintail body", dwarfing the mallard. This is an example of skin blow out, which is normal on a very clean skin as all the feather tract grids are wide open and not sealed in fat. The specimen itself was very big for a pintail, but a responsible taxidermist will not falsify the bird with a larger body, it'll make the head look smaller. Instead I take my time to work the skin down correctly on the final product.

I have a limited amount of room left for intake. Starting to move back into the shop as well but still closed off till I have a new door and arrange the work area to look professional.

Starting into this seasons birds. Lots on my plate, and I'm only 1 person. I appreciate everyone's patience.

The decision has been made...until I have the ability to hire help, large geese are now discontinued. If you don't know, I have a ruptured tendon in my right arm that occurred 3 years ago. Large birds are the culprit as they are extremely heavy skins that require an immense amount of labor in every aspect. This injury does not affect my normal work at all, it only has to do with those large skins.

Unless you have a very rare large goose or a legit quill, I will not entertain them.

Was blessed with a double best of category at the Iowa show. Best upland and non game birds. It was a dangerous drive home with the storm that hit Nebraska this weekend but after a 15 hour crawl, I'm home.

Mallards are simple and the bread and butter of many shops order lists. I will say for any bird, please try to choose unique compositions vs what everyone has, you're paying for a professional art service, it's not a copy/print shop. I had a bit of free reign on this landing pose so I added some simulated wind shear etc.

I love pheasants. Colorado is 50/50 state for pheasants but I had wished for more of these and white fronted geese and got blessed with many this year.

This is a half melanistic. Full melanistic crossed back with a regular ringneck, nothing rare.

25/02/2024

I will be enforcing no harlequin specimens taken before Halloween and mid November for all other seaducks, sea geese and goldeneye. It costs 450 for seaducks and this is not what a quality mount consists of as its too early and birds are in molt. If you're going to pay the cost of the hunt, airfare and mount, please make sure you plan the timing accordingly to bring back quality birds. Birds like this take so much more time, added frustration and they will never look as good as a fully plumed bird. This is only half the pile of feathers lost.

Hens are so under appreciated for most species. I've heard some very bitter comments made about hens being "ugly" in my career. A true sportsman respects the game he pursues.

As a reminder, it is a shop rule that birds have to be paid with half deposit down per bird, or work will not start on them plus I need bases chosen and paid in a timely manner per discussion with each client. I also can request in full if I suspect issues with the order such as lack of communication, or if the person takes off without a deposit I can refuse service. I have to be paid for my work. This also applies the 30 day pickup and payment rule. Once birds are declared ready, 30 days is the allowance before I can charge storage fees and the bird will no longer have any liability after that point in time.

If you love our work or are a happy customer (which is literally everyone), please share my page to friends. Support your taxidermist, it costs zero cents. Best of luck to everyone this season. Freezers are filling, so definitely get your birds in, I'm about to reach a year turnaround after the next 20 birds. Youth and veteran/first responder rates are $20 under standard rates.

No swans this season. I discontinued them for those wondering. I cannot handle them with my arm injury and early season swans will destroy drains with copious amounts of pinfeathers. They will remain discontinued until I am able to hire help with them. I cannot handle them on my own anymore...Carpal tunnel isn't a joke.

24/10/2023

Probably the hardest question to answer, really can't answer is how much a bird will cost to ship. I'm getting a lot of that asked lately and really it varies. Also depends where you live. Let's say someone wants to ship me a bird. Overnight may cost over the counter $180 plus. DONT PAY THAT. So, I've come up with a solution. https://www.pirateship.com/

This site is stupid good for mailing overnight a 3rd the cost. 2 day, could be half or less. It really helps my Alaska clients not pay a fortune. When I ship birds home I use FedEx, post office is dangerous with birds frozen or mounted as they are often late and throw things. I quote final shipping cost with final half deposit once packed.

For those out of state, combined shipping helps a ton, so have buddies send orders with yours too and split the shipping bill.

What costs more to ship? Flying mounts. Geese and large birds require detachable wings with an upcharge for flying mounts I have to ship or they won't fit. Heavy and large bases may require me to ship the birds off the base to avoid crushing. Standing is my go to as there's less hassle and less cost being able to consolidate space.

Use our free UPS and USPS-certified shipping software to get pre-negotiated discounts for the cheapest shipping rates, which can save you up to 89%.
