Here comes Santa Claus, here comes Santa Claus right to WHS! ๐Ÿพ

We will be hosting our annual "Pet Pictures With Santa" here at the shelter on Saturday, November 18th from 10AM-3PM and again on Sunday, November 19th from 10AM-2PM. Santa and Mrs. Claus will both be present for this event!

A $30 fee includes 5-10 digital images sent to families a couple of weeks after the event. This event will be for both pets and families. Pets of ANY type are welcome! We've had dogs, cats, pigs, and chickens in the past so feel free to bring us your best friend and we'll get you pictures!

Morris Portraits will be taking photos for us this year! ๐ŸŽ„

I didnโ€™t want to bring this to my business page, but Iโ€™m so desperateโ€ฆ

Itโ€™s now been around 60 hours since my dog, Wrigley, went missing. We have not heard anything from anyone and have not been able to find him ourselves. Weโ€™ve searched everywhere we could possibly think of and weโ€™ve called shelters and animal controls everywhere.

He chewed the trim off our front door and chewed on the boards around the door until he broke the lock and the door popped open. He took off around 10AM on September 27th. We have no idea where he went as heโ€™s never left before. Any time heโ€™s ever gotten out the door, heโ€™s just run laps around the neighborhood. This is NOT normal for him at all.

Please help us get him home. My husband and I miss him so much. ๐Ÿ’”

I NEVER thought I would have to make this post, but apparently, I do.

I take my job VERY seriously and do my best to be as professional as possible at all times. I love what I do and while the extra side money is nice, I do it mainly because this is where my heart is. However, THIS is inappropriate as s**t. I WILL NOT have a client that harasses me or disrespects my marriage in any way. What makes this worse is that I have watched this manโ€™s dog twice now. A dog that was adopted from Warrick Humane Society and who I love dearly. And everything has always been 100% professional until now. I have NEVER met this man. He was given my information from someone else at work when the boarding facility was completely booked up and all of our communication has been done over text or phone calls. But I will not keep someone as a client just because I love their pet if they cannot respect me. This is simply not okay in any way, shape, or form and will not be tolerated.

Meet Your Sitter! ๐Ÿถ

โ€œHey there!

Iโ€™m Jessie and I am 28 years old. Iโ€™m married to my best friend, Dylan, and together we share 9 gorgeous kiddos. I am part of the St. Benedict Cathedral School and Bosse High School alumni. In my free time, I play coed softball and help coach kids when possible.

Iโ€™ve had dogs and cats in my family since the day I was born. Since my Senior year of high school in 2013, I have owned and raised my own dogs and cats. I currently have 5 dogs and a cat. In 2016, I began working for Warrick Humane Society as a kennel technician where I still work today as a kennel tech, a surgery tech, and the Communications Coordinator. I now also work as a veterinary technician for Bennett Veterinary Services one day a week. Thanks to these jobs, I have been able to experience dogs and cats of every size, shape, and breed. Iโ€™ve also been able to take care of animals with multiple heath conditions. In 2018, I graduated from Harrison College with my Associates Degree in Veterinary Technology. Iโ€™ve also been thankful to have worked in two other veterinary clinics, the zoo, and a dog training/boarding facility. I also volunteered at a horse rescue in NC when I lived there.

Thanks to my experience in both my career and personal life, I know that every animal is different. YOU tell me what is best for your pet and I will help in any way that I can!โ€

If you have any questions or want to know more about me, please ask! ๐Ÿ’™

Thereโ€™s nothing like wrestling a dog that weighs almost as much as you do for a bath and nail trim that he absolutely does NOT want. BUT we got it done and look at how STUNNING this handsome boy looks. Canโ€™t wait to see him tomorrow when heโ€™s all dry and not so mad at me. ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ’™

Warrick Humane Society needs your help now more than ever!

WE NEED ADOPTERS!!! There are currently 91 animals in our care between the animals at our shelter and the ones currently placed in foster homes. And our adoptions have slowed to a trickle. We cannot keep going without adopters stepping up for these animals.

Twice this year, we have made posts about owner surrenders. We are now well at over 400+ surrender requests just this year. IT HAS TO STOP. We CANNOT take in any more animals. Our shelter is at MAX CAPACITY yet it never fails that EVERY DAY, we get at least one phone call or email where someone wants to surrender their animal. And if it isn't one of those routes, we have someone knocking at our door asking us to take their animal. We just can't do it anymore.

As a No-Kill shelter, WHS does not euthanize for space. However, we partner with many groups that sadly do have to make that heartbreaking decision. Every time we take in an owner surrender, thatโ€™s another spot taken away from an animal in a kill-shelter that has a time-clock. We are unable to take anymore animals at this time because of how full we are. This hurts not only our shelter, but every facility that we partner with. And it is draining our staff members.

PLEASE help us by NOT giving up on your pet!!! We have offered many tips and solutions to help keep your animal instead of giving them up. This can include training, doggy daycare, etc. We offer a low-cost vaccine clinic each month to try and help keep your pet healthy while also keeping cost down. We can offer advice whenever possible and also help point you to vetโ€™s offices that may be more affordable or taking new clients. There are too many surrenders that can be prevented.

We also kindly ask for your help in many other ways. Adopt Donโ€™t Shop! We have a shelter FULL of fantastic animals all waiting to find their furever homes. Get involved and become a volunteer! Volunteers are a crucial part of keeping our shelter going each day. If you can't adopt, fostering is an incredible way to help us with pregnant mommas, nursing babies, or little ones that just need more time before making their way inside our doors. If none of these are options, donations always help us with obtaining essential supplies to our every day operations.

We will also not take disrespect to our staff. Our staff members work extrememly hard day in and day out to make sure the animals in our shelter receive the best care possible. Yelling at us, using nasty language, or getting upset that we will not take an animal off your hands does not change the fact that we are completely full. Many of us have multiple fosters in our own homes just because we are out of space at the shelter. Please realize that this job is not easy and we are doing our best. Staff members are exhausted, mentally and emotionally drained, and putting in long hours. Your kindness can go a long way in affecting our team.

Lastly, please, SPAY AND NEUTER YOUR PETS!

-Jessie, WHS Communications Coordinator ๐Ÿ’™
