The last Urban Challenge Games to explore are 3 and 6.

Game 3, elusive, is a level 2/3 hide. The possible height of the hide for this game is increased to 108". Yes the hide can be up to 9' high. It dose not have to be high, it could be inaccessible (inside something or behind something). This is a very skill driven game that is an nice way to try out Urban Grand Champion hide parameters.

Game 6, roll the the dice, is a combinations of two of the games 1-5. Game 1 combine with game 2 is distance you make the call. You remain behind the line and have to call "rat" or "alert". I use a random number generator to choose the games that will make up game number 6. The entries for the class close before the combination of games is announced. The randomness of this game is why I use it for entry into winter league as it levels the playing field in a way between dogs and handlers that are at different levels.

We have room in this Sundays NASDA trial for day of entries. We'll be at Sniffington's 2012 Seasons Ridge Blvd Evansville, IN 47715. Day of entries will be taken from 9:15-9:45 or you can enter online and pay Sunday before the trail starts. Dress warm and come play with us!

Next pair of Urban Challenge games we'll look at can be intimidating at first. Games 2 and 4 have many similarities and one big difference.

Game 2, you make the call, this is a level 2 or 3 hide. There is quarry present. The handler makes the "alert" or "rat" call. This game highlights the handlers ability to read their dog. All games are ran blind, meaning that no handlers know where the hide is placed. It can also show you if your dogs needs a stronger indicator on hides before beginning your Urban Grand Champion journey.

Game 4, got rat?, is a level 2 or 3 level hide where the search area maybe clear or may have quarry. It is up to the handler to read their dog and decide, if the area is clear or identify where the quarry is located. The handler will call "clear"/"finish" or "alert"/"rat". This game showcases a teams ability to not just find quarry, but also the lack of it. Now that I run my dogs in all the games, this game is my favorite!

These games are incredibly challenging without impeccable communication between handlers and their partners. Honest dogs make these games much easier as does trusting your dog.

I want to share a bit about the games over the nest couple of days. I will be starting with the games I started with and think are the least intimidating. If you want to change your games you already entered, we can take care of it before the trail starts this Sunday.

Game 5, Silence, is my first recommendation. The special rule is simple. Once you and your dog cross the start line you have to be silent. The hide is set at a level 1 or 2 and you have 2 minutes. Judge makes the "yes" call. This game is one that lets you as a handler see how dependent on your voice your dog is during a search.

Game 1, distance, Is my second recommendation. This game's special rule is the handler can NOT cross the start line plane. I recommend standing a couple feet back from the start line as no part of your person can cross the plane. I recommend a 15' foot lead. Judge make the "yes" call. This game will let you see how you dogs works with you physically removed form the search area.

I will go over a couple more later today. The games are meant to be challenging (there will be distractors) and prepare teams for Urban Grand Champion. If you and your dog are enjoying Urban Locating, it's never too early to try games. I like to use the games to show me where I can improve as a handler. These are just quick overviews, I will have a printed rule book on site at the trail for anyone that would like to see the complete rules. I believe NASDA.dog is still running an update.

A few announcements:

January 12th trail will not take day of entries.

January 19th is a third filled currently. I recommend early entry.

April 4th-6th is officially approved. Premium can be found at NASDA.dog under events. I will post it to the page later this evening. In the past our big trails have filled. By request, I have added back several of the advanced classes, show me you want them to stay.

I will start at mini series on the Urban Challenge Games for those curious about what they entail tomorrow.

I am now starting a wait list for the January12th trail, no day of entry for January 12th, 2025. Entry for January 19th and 26th are open, I recommend early entry. Remember we are raising money for the VHS' low cost spay neuter clinic.

To enter the league for a chance at one of our special ribbons you MUST enter Urban Challenge Games 6 and you get to choose the 2nd score from another class. (Game 6 is a roll of the dice where 2 of the other 5 games are combined. Ex. A roll of 1 and 4 is Distance and rat or no rat. So you are doing Game 4 but you can't cross the start line.) I will start posting about individual games this coming week.

It looks like January 12th will be very cold! Dress warm, dress your partner warm if they like to be dressed. At this point I do plan to be in the agility barn for the trial.
