We have been so busy lately we haven’t had much time for updates! Our 5 rescue crabs are all doing great! They’ve been active & eating well! Here are some tank maintenance & feeding pictures.

It’s super important hermit crabs have a varied diet! In the below bowls are: Seabird Poo, Sunny Side Up Popcorn Mix (their favorite) from Crab Cuisine Co, bee pollen, organic black salt, sesame seeds, wheatgrass seeds, kelp, snake shed, protein powder mix, crushed egg shells, hermit crab safe fish flakes, & black solider fly larva!

The black bowl is worm castings, but all those “longer bits” are hermie poops! That just goes to show how important worm castings is in a hermit crab’s diet! They love it, & they need it! The last picture is just one week of use in our salt & freshwater pools! Crabs use the heck out of those pools & it’s important they have pools deep enough to full submerge! These are the medium size pools from TheLuckyCrabCo!

Today we took in three more rescue crabs! Not only did we do that, but we also put together an entire crabitat in one day. Which is not for the faint of heart! 🥴😂

Thank you so much Lindsey Berry Burczyk for grabbing these guys from central KY & getting them into our care! She also took three herself! The hermit crab community really is so supportive & helpful with each other! 🙌🙌

We need your help if we’re going to make this rescue work! 🙌

Many hands make light work- & while for the past two years I’ve been doing rescue myself, in order to expand we need more tanks & supplies! All of our tanks are FULL!

We currently have 2 hermit crabs in PPDS (Post Purchase Death Syndrome) acclimation tanks that will soon be ready for their permanent homes. But without more tanks I cannot bring anymore crabs in & we currently have MULTIPLE more crabs waiting for rescue!

We need tanks! Each hermit crab requires 10 gallons of space! Meaning for a 40 gallon tank- only four crabs can do in.

We are ISO:
-40 gallon breeders
-75+ gallon
-Glass lids to fit!

Tanks cannot be front opening because there will not enough space for substrate in these type of tanks. It’s important to note tanks DO NOT have to hold water! If you have a tank you’d be willing to donate (or trade) please send us a message. We need all the help we can get!

Pictured on the left is a crab we rescued in April of last year, the crab on the right has been with us for about two weeks & is doing great!

Welcome to Cory’s Crustaceans!

I have recently been encouraged by close family & friends to pursue my dream of starting a hermit crab rescue. The past two years of owning hermit crabs, I have become quite passionate about their care.

Hermit crabs are one of the number one most abused & neglected pets. It is absolutely heartbreaking what these crabs go through to even get into the pet trade to begin with! Did you know: Every single hermit crab in pet stores were harvested from the wild? The industry is cruel!

Millions of hermit crabs die every year to fulfill the pet industry’s needs- & an alarmingly high amount of the crab’s that do make it into stores & homes die from neglect or abusive conditions. I’m sure you or a loved one have a sad hermit crab story!

The reality is- without passionate individuals dedicated to education & rescuing crabs in poor conditions, the industry will never change. These crustaceans are not just pretty shells you win at the fair! They are a species with surprisingly advanced care needs. They have a complex diet & very specific habitat requirements.

Our goal is to educate the general public & provide a sanctuary for land hermit crabs in need. Eventually, we hope to become an official nonprofit & expand to adoption!

Pictured is our newest rescue crab, who was in a toxic painted shell & poor conditions. This crab switched to a natural shell within 24 hours & is currently acclimating in a “Post Purchase Death Syndrome” tank.
