Awesome!
Historically, unsocialized outdoor cats have been at risk in animal shelters. In order to save more lives, Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter created a working cat program. 🐱
Designed to create a mutually beneficial partnership for at-risk cats and humans needing rodent control, these cats are adopted out as “working cats” or “barn cats." However, their placements are not just limited to barns. The shelter also places these hard-working felines in warehouses, shops, arenas, breweries, and garden centers, just to name a few. While they may not make ideal house cats, they do make great mousers and a beloved companion for both people and companies.
Wanting to make sure their cats have the best life possible, Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter makes sure every cat is fully vetted and requires that the adopters provide covered shelter, daily food and water, and long-term veterinary care. After all, just because they have a job does not mean they are not a part of the family.
It is because of innovative programs like this that we are getting one step closer to moving our country no-kill by 2025! 👏 -katheryn
