No matter where you adventure this winter make sure to do the following to keep your four legged friend happy and irritation free:

1. Wipe Their Paws – Use a damp cloth or pet-safe wipes to clean off any salt, ice, or chemicals from their paws and in between their toes.

2. Inspect for Irritation – Check for cracks, redness, or cuts that might be worsened by the salt or cold.

3. Apply Paw Balm or Moisturizer – Use a pet-safe paw balm to keep their paw pads from becoming dry and cracked.

4. Rinse if Needed – If there’s a lot of salt or de-icer, rinse their paws in lukewarm water before drying them thoroughly.

5. Use Booties (If Possible) – If your pet tolerates them, booties can prevent salt and ice buildup entirely.

6. Monitor for Ingestion – If your pet licks their paws excessively after the walk, they might ingest harmful salt or chemicals. Watch for signs of distress like vomiting or drooling.
