One of the major differences between just a well trained pet dog and a service dog is that service dogs provide tasks that help to fill the humans life and provide service where it is needed to help them lead a full life and even potentially save there life. Hank, here, is a mobility assist service dog in training. His human was in a horrific motorcycle accident that left her with mobility challenges, as well as cognitive and neurological damage. Hank will help her with stability when walking, helping her up, and seeking out help in case of an emergency. Hank is a true work horse, as well as an extremely loving family pet. He will have a job until the day he can’t do it anymore. But he will also have a loving home that wants the best for him, and with that he will give it his best always. Having a well adjusted puppy/dog is imperative for their life. Creating a value for attention during stressful situations helps this process. I don’t know that Dex, videoed here, will ever really NEED to be around gunfire but creating value to be around me and work when this stressful situation is going on will likely insure that he will not have a poor stress response around loud noises and other stressors. This includes working around other dogs, as other dogs can create poor stress response. Working our dogs around motorcycles, loud trucks, other dogs, thunderstorms, busy roads, town centers, etc.. will help in the confident building process. If you have ever had a dog with a poor stress response, you know what I’m talking about… work your dog. They deserve to have a great life. Leash walking can be the most frustrating thing a dog owner can do with there dog. *Pulling*Reactivity*Not listening Having a dog who is responsive under any and all conditioners is what we all want. But most people give up without the right direction on how to get a dog to respond.Maddie, videoed here, use to pull incessantly and bark at everything. It was a problem in her moms life. After a few sessions we had her walking everywhere, including field trips to Petsmart and Home Depot, and responding to many different commands. This is all because her mom learned how to engage her dog and put in the work. 👏🏼 We have to put in the effort to reap the rewards.
