Fancy Cats & Dogs is a nonprofit organization run by volunteers, with the purpose of rehoming cats that need it. A lot of these cats have been through hard times, so we do our best to make sure to match up every cat with the right human(s) for them. We are a 501(c)(3) charity and our money comes from donations so anything that you can do to help is immensely appreciated (United Way #98772)

Founded in 1997 by Cathy Awad, Fancy Cats now has four PetSmart Adoption Centers and 150+ volunteers. Our mission is to end needless euthanasia at shelters in the National Capital area by rescuing and finding suitable lifetime homes for our cats & dogs, promoting spaying and neutering, and educating the public on responsible pet ownership. Since our inception in 1997, we have found loving homes for 15,000+ cats. 🎶🐾 Jazz is a beautiful American Coonhound mix with a gentle soul and a heart full of sweetness. Approximately 11-12 years old, she’s a calm, easygoing girl who enjoys the simple pleasures in life—long naps during the day and taking her time on walks to sniff everything around her. Life moves at a peaceful pace for Jazz, and she’s perfectly content that way.

She’s quiet, well-mannered, crate-trained, and very treat-motivated, making her a joy to have around. Jazz has successfully boarded in homes with other dogs and cats and did wonderfully, showing just how adaptable and well-behaved she is. She would make a lovely companion for someone looking for a low-key, loving dog to share their days with.

Do you know someone looking for a loving, playful companion? Please share Jumpy!

Jumpy is a sweet, playful young dog who has bounced back from a tough start with an affectionate, happy-go-lucky personality. He loves all people, enjoys cuddles and lap time, and adapted well to apartment living with minimal fuss over city noise. While he gets bursts of zoomies, he balances that with long naps and is content entertaining himself with toys. Jumpy is crate-trained, housebroken, non-destructive, and improving on leash manners, with a preference for daily walks and outside time but flexibility when schedules are tight. Jumpy plays well with other dogs and would play with them forever, but he would do best as an only pet for now as he learns the social norms of the dog world and completes some discipline training.

He has been through a lot of change recently and has been through a lot in his short life - he would thrive in a home with some time to decompress and get in a routine. Jumpy is a loyal, goofy, and easy-going pup who would make a wonderful companion.

Meet Trevor 💙

Trevor is an 8½-year-old terrier mix with a heart as big as his goofy personality. He’s the definition of a cuddle bug and couch potato, happiest curled up next to his person, preferably under a cozy blanket. While he’s mostly laid back, he still gets the occasional burst of zoomies that reminds you he’s young at heart.

Trevor absolutely *loves* people and quickly becomes a true Velcro dog, always wanting to be close. He adores toys, enjoys car rides, and is a champ at the groomer. He’s house trained, crate trained, and has wonderful manners all around. He also loves other dogs and brings a big dose of joy wherever he goes.

Rain? Not his thing. Snuggles, naps, and love? His favorite things ever.

Trevor is a big goofball with the sweetest soul, just waiting to share his love with someone special. 🐾💙

Carly, Snow Belle, and Squeaks are looking for their forever home after losing their owner. Despite everything they’ve been through, these sweet, loving cats are ready to share their hearts again. 💕

Huge kudos to our awesome fosters for thinking outside the box to make sure our available animals are seen! 💛

🐾 Carly is a playful, affectionate girl full of life. She loves attention and will happily curl up with you all night long.
🐾 Snow Belle is a gentle, darling soul who has been through a lot—but she’s blossoming! She’s becoming more playful and has started enjoying snuggling in bed.
🐾 Squeaks is an adorable tabby with the sweetest little meow that will melt your heart.

All three get along well with other cats, are vaccinated, microchipped, and have purr-fect litter box manners. 🐱✨

Hi friends! I’m Lychee (aka “Little Momma”) 🐾 I’m an incredibly sweet puppy who greets my people with hugs and gentle kisses. See my floppy one-ear-up? That’s my signature “did you call me?” look 😘
I’ve got happy puppy energy, but I also take snuggling very seriously. Netflix on the couch? I’m in. Laying in bed? I’m already climbing up to join you. I’m the perfect mix of fun, silly, and cozy.
I LOVE squeaky toys, tug-of-war with my foster brother, chew bones, ice cubes, rope toys, belly rubs, cuddles, and basically all the attention you’re willing to give. I’d be an awesome playmate for another young dog. I’ve met a cat too 🐱 I was curious but polite, and with slow introductions I think I’d do just fine with feline friends 💕
I’m crate trained, housebroken, good on a leash, and very gentle when taking treats (yes, I’m a good girl 😇). I love lounging near my people, but if I want alone time, I’ll happily chill in my kennel. I also enjoy zooming around the yard and sunbathing like a pro ☀️
I adore people, though I can be a little shy at first. Once I know you’re safe, I’m all snuggles and love. I do best with slow introductions to kids, so a home without young children would be ideal.

🆘 URGENT: EXPERIENCED ADOPTER OR FOSTER NEEDED 🆘 PLEASE SHARE! Maxwell has been with us for 2years, through no fault of his own😔. I mean look at this ham of a boy! 😍If you can foster charming, intelligent, loyal, goofy Maxwell (or Max), please email [email protected].
Exercise/play - Max is quiet &calm, relaxing most of the day and always wherever his people are. He is good on a strong leash for daily walks, does get ‘excited’ about people. He does not bolt out of doors as he's loyal to his person wanting to stay wherever they are. If he does not get the daily walk he's a little more rambunctious and needy for attention.
Max has not been to the dog parks because of his ‘people’ nervousness, though he does well with other calmer dogs. He has befriended his next-door neighbor through their dog while at his current foster home.
Max enjoys playing tug-of-war until he’s done which he makes known by taking the rope and protectively laying down with it. 🥹

Crate trained - Max is very comfortable and feels secure in his crate. He will go to the crate willingly by one command; “Max’s crate” & treats.

Chew - Max does not chew things up like furniture, shoes, etc. but loves to dig in wastebaskets, loves cardboard, paper towels, tissues. If he is chewing something he should not be, careful distraction works with a treat, toy etc. but would not attempt to grab it from him.

Bath - Max can be bathed in the bathtub. He’ll stay while being calmly washed anticipating more treats which he is given periodically during the time. Does not like his head washed, only wash to the neck. He does like to be brushed…sometimes lol.

New people - Max is very protective and loyal to the people he knows. He is a bit nervous in meeting people and will guard his humans.

Intelligence - Smart dog, responds well to praise. He understands and responds to most common commands. He learns routines; times to eat, time for walk, time for person to arrive home, etc. He knows the name “Kelley” (his co-foster) and will run excitedly to the door, look out the window, thinking she’s coming!

Urkel and Tiny Tim are a sweet and energetic pair of 1-year-old Chihuahua mixes who love snuggling and playing in equal measure. Urkel is a lap magnet 🧲 who is always ready for cuddling, while Tiny Tim brings classic Chihuahua s***k and a love of crinkle toys. Both boys are making great progress with their potty training, and Urkel is starting to grasp the basics of the “stay” command. This pair gets along famously and love walking and playing together. At a combined 21 pounds, Urkel and Tiny Tim are proof that love comes in all sizes.

Beef Wellington is a handsome, cuddly boy who joined Fancy Cats🐱 🎀 from one of our wonderful partner shelters—and he’s been winning hearts ever since. This affectionate guy has a laid-back, loving personality and truly enjoys the company of others, both feline and human.

He gets along great with other cats, 🐈 making him an excellent companion for a resident kitty who could use a friendly new buddy. That said, Beef Wellington would also be perfectly happy as a solo cat, soaking up all the love, attention, and snuggles his humans have to offer. He’s wonderfully adaptable and just wants to be part of a home where he can feel safe and adored.

According to his foster, Beef Wellington is a world-class snuggler. 🥇😴 He will happily curl up just about anywhere for a nap and especially loves sleeping close to his person, making him the ultimate cuddle companion. Whether it’s on the couch, the bed, or right by your side, Beef Wellington is always ready to settle in and relax with you. Beef Wellington’s estimated birthdate is August 2020. He is neutered, up to date on all vaccines, tested negative for feline leukemia (FeLV) and FIV, and has been microchipped—completely ready to head off to his forever home. 🏠 ✨

URGENT‼️Ben needs a foster or adopter ASAP! This pocket pittie is great with other dogs and kids, and is a volunteer favorite. If you can foster him, email [email protected]

Ben is the sweetest boy who will happily lay down on you or near you when in the same room. For a 1-ish year old pup, Ben is calm; while he has his puppy energy moments, he’s quick to respond to the "Sit" command and has been learning to calm himself down when new people are around.

Ben’s favorite activity besides napping in the same room you are in, is to play fetch! Food and play motivated, Ben is a delight to train on fun tricks like going under your legs.

Ben is great in the car and has lived with other dogs with no problem. Ben has a laid back energy with the dogs he has lived with in the foster home and is not toy, food, or bone aggressive. Ben does well with children and would be a fantastic family dog. Ben is a little too interested in playing with cats so he'd love a cat-free home.

This sweet boy has been in boarding for over a month and we really want to get him back in a loving home!

Ben has a huge heart and loves to cuddle! Gentle kisses galore and a lover of pets, Ben would make a great addition to your family!
