Sometimes adopters come along and they don't realize how big of an impact they will have on a pet or the animal care staff. They come in and find that furever friend, but sometimes it's a short forever. Milo Fior 🌼 was adopted a little over a month ago and was diagnosed as a hospice case shortly after adoption. The VanFleet family stood by him with all the chicken and apple treats his heart desired until he crossed the rainbow bridge today 🌈. Thank you to the VanFleet family for doing something that not many can do.

In honor of Milo Fior please donate to NorCal Boxer Rescue and their "growing old with you" senior boxer assistance program. https://ncbr.org/growing-old-with-you/

On 1/8/25 we had an all walk-in Vaccine Clinic.

Due to having an outstanding number of no shows when we did appointments we thought we would try this approach and see how well it worked. We were able to give 251 services to 91 animals. Yep, the line was long. Yep, we stayed wayyyyy past our bedtime. But was it worth it?....Yep!
We felt it was a pretty successful event and everyone was in good spirits and a pleasure to work with.
For anyone that attended; are there any suggestions on how you think it could have gone better? Do you think we should do it that way again? Maybe from 2pm to 4pm?

Take in to consideration these factors:

1. A veterinarian is needed to complete the vaccinations without a physical exam. If we had RVTS complete the task the appointments would have been much longer due to the exam they need to document. We had 1 veterinarian that could assist due to the other veterinarian tending to shelter animals medical needs. Senate Bill (SB) 669
2. Staff was pulled away from animal care to help with traffic and computer input.
3. We don't have a lot of parking spots
4. The shelter was still open for intakes, adoptions, redemptions etc.

A quick numbers break down for animal care today in regard to the dog overpopulation. We're pretty beat.

1. Started the day with about 120 dogs
2. 1 dog adoption... yes 1
3. Took in about 30 stray dogs plus some owner surrenders
4. To put that into perspective; our large adoption building has 40 large dog runs. Our old school side has about 50 kennels for large dogs that aren't the greatest.
5. 50+40=90 90 available runs to house about 150 dogs..it's not a fun game of tetris.
6. Intakes are outnumbering outcomes.

How can you help?
1. Adopt
2. Foster for a rescue so they can pull a dog out of the shelter
3. Don't let your dogs out to go potty without checking fences and gates. It's windy....
4. Share available animals social media posts Saving shelter animals in/near Solano county is a great sister page of ours run by volunteers.
5. Missing a pet? Come take a look through the dogs at the facility and through the found binder of people housing pets.
6. Join the Lost and found pet pages and help make matches

It's National Trivia Day!

What is the most popular dog breed in the US? 🐕

The French bulldog became the most popular dog breed for the first time in history, ending the Labrador retriever's 31-year reign.

We generally have an average of 5 frenchies up for adoption monthly. Right now we have 2 available for adoption! Carter and Atlas

We would like to wish everyone and their furry family members a happy and safe New Year 2025!

URGENT: WTRF Rescue Van Stolen

License Plate: 97310W2

Details: Previously displayed Waggin’ Trails Rescue magnets on the doors (may have been removed) and a Waggin’ Trails Rescue license plate frame.
