Meet the Dance Kittens: Jitterbug, Charleston, Lindy Hop, Cha Cha, and Foxtrot! Affectionately known by staff as the Wobbles.
You might be wondering where these kittens got their sick dance moves. It comes naturally because 4 of the 5 have “wobbly cat syndrome” or Cerebellar Hypoplasia (CH). CH is a lifelong disorder that causes uncoordinated or jerky movements and tremors, the severity of which varies. It is most commonly contracted before a kitten is even born when a pregnant cat is infected with panleukopenia. The stress on her body results in the kitten’s cerebellum failing to fully develop. The result is a deficit of some sort of motor control.
As you can see in this video, the kittens’ coordination varies greatly. Jitterbug (the white and grey kitten) shows the most pronounced deficits. But you should also see that they are just as playful and fun-loving as other kittens!
The dance kittens aren’t ready for homes yet. They still need to be spayed/neutered. And on top of being exposed to panleukopenia before they were even born, they had calicivirus when they arrived. Please note that both of these serious and highly contagious illnesses can be largely prevented through standard feline vaccinations, so the main reason they have had to suffer through these ailments was the failure by humans to provide basic veterinary care.
For those interested in adopting one of these sweeties, please research how to care for a CH cat and make sure you can provide an appropriate environment. Luckily, these kids are able to use the litter box just fine. However, there are many accommodations that you should be willing and able to make, such as barricading stairs, providing carpets, using raised bowls, having litter boxes with low entrances but high sides, and never declawing them.
CH cats can live long, joy-filled lives, as well as, bring so much joy to their families. If you are interested in adopting a CH cat, please start by doing a little research and then r

Every year, Samantha reaches out to us wanting to celebrate her sweet Emmie’s birthday. 🎈Unfortunately she lost her a few years ago, but decided to share that love with our shelter dogs instead. Thank you so much Samantha! & Happy Heavenly Birthday, Emmie 💕✨
Deedee spayed female
Estimated 2 years old
Just under 40 lbs
Mix breed
Deedee was a tough nut to crack she absolutely loves to be near you once you gain her trust she is so loving and caring she has been cat tested and seemed kind of scared of the cats but didn’t show any signs of a prey drive. One of our staff members took her home where she met two other dogs she was a little weary at first and didn’t know how to react to others that aren’t the ones she was found running with but after a little while they started walking around together and they got comfortable enough in one afternoon to all sleep in the same bed. Deedee is one of the sweetest playful girls we have down on the dog side. It did take our staff members a couple days of gaining her trust for us to see this goofy side of her but once we did we all love her and cannot wait to see her go to her forever home
If you are interested in adopting her or meeting her please fill out our adoption application
Kielbasa
Kielbasa has politely informed us that he is ready to go home. While he very much appreciates our love and care, he would like to leave now. Kielbasa has been with us for a few months, coming in almost completely hairless from mange. He was so scared, it took weeks for him to warm up to us. Now he is happier than ever, and ready to see what the love of a family is like. Squeaky toys are his favorite, so he wants his new parents to know they need to stock up! 38lbs, 1 1/2 yrs old, neutered. #adoptdontshop #shelterdog #Demodex #mchswvnokillshelter
Meet Dee Dee! She was found abandoned with her housemates (they will be posted as well) outdoors by animal control. Dee Dee is around 2 years old and we think she is a lab/pitbull mix. She can be very shy at first, but once she warms up she is SO full of love and energy. She loves kisses and being a silly goofball. We think she would do great with other dogs and older children, but we are currently unsure about cats.
If you are interested in adopting Dee Dee please email [email protected] or direct message us for an application! 💕
Rover wants to thank the generous people who sent this ball! He was a having so much fun! For a dog that spent his whole life in and out of a shelter, toys like these are second best to a home ❤️ We love seeing the kids so happy. You all support us SO MUCH. From the every day essentials, to toys that make them happy. #Rover #ShelterAnimals #supportyourlocalshelter
One of the many things keeping us busy this time of year is socializing the feral kittens who are surrendered to us. Unfortunately, cats born outdoors only have a short period of time in which they can learn to trust humans. Fortunately, Waterlily and her brother Monet seem to have made it to us just in time. Waterlily is not yet available for adoption, but keep an eye out for when she is posted! Also, if you’d like to volunteer to spend some quality time with some distrusting kittens we could always use more volunteers!
This is how you sleep when you feel safe.❤️🐾
Leopold just won’t stop rolling around while we try to check how he’s recovering from his upper respiratory infection. And he definitely won’t stop purring. Of course seeing him play and purr are signs he’s feeling 10,000% better. Leopold has been through a lot. Most recently he caught a virus that affected several of the shelter cats. In March, when he arrived at MCHS his skin, eyes, and gums were completely yellow from an insult to the liver. We don’t know what caused it and his bloodwork was completely normal. With time and supportive care, his skin and eyes returned to their normal color. In that time, he has revealed himself to be quite the silly goose. But he still hasn’t found his forever home. If you’re interested in adopting this sweet boy, email [email protected] to request an application.
We would like to say thank you to the wonderful people who donated this play set to us for the dogs! Rover loves it and we are hoping that some of the other dogs will to!!
We are so confused on why Primrose is still with us. She is around two years old, and is our longest kitty resident by being here since January. The people that found her believe she was abandoned by her previous owners and was left at their property. Prim LOVES attention and will paw gently at your hand wanting more. She adores the company of other cats and she would do wonderful with children. Please apply to adopt today! 🐱🐾 #adoptdontshop #adopt #
Good news!!
Roger had his last laser treatment today with the wonderful girls at Fairmont Veterinary Hospital. We will continue the medicated ointment till it is totally healed. What a difference 2 weeks has made, he is officially a puppy! 🤣
Bad news...
His prior owners preliminary hearing was today, the felony charges were dropped because they could not prove intent, they will hopefully be recharged with a misdemeanor. As soon as we know a court date, we will share it here.
But until then, keep good thoughts coming Roger's way! ❤️🐾
Please enjoy a little video of him playing today.
We invite you on a walkthrough of feline isolation to show why we have placed a hold on intakes and adoptions. Starting last week, an upper respiratory infection started to hit quite a few cats at our facility. We’re doing our best to make sure no more cats get sick. A sure fire way to limit possible spread is by making sure we’re not introducing new cats or kittens into an area with sick cats. That includes both our isolation and quarantine rooms at the moment. Unfortunately, that means there’s nowhere for new kitties to go that isn’t a high risk area for exposure to this upper respiratory virus.
This video should give an idea of the number of cats affected so far and our space constraints. Luckily everyone seems to be responding well to treatment, but a few kitties went through a pretty severe crisis lasting 24-48 hours after symptoms first appeared.
Please be patient with us as we deal with this illness. We are taking additional precautions in the handling of cats and disinfecting of all environments. Once new cases stop popping up, we will have a better idea of when we can resume adoptions and intakes.
