All of the commands we teach have an implied stay. This means if we tell a dog "down" the dog is to hold that position until we release them. We use the word "break" to tell them the command is over. To achieve this we increase the duration of the command, increase the distance we can be from the dog, and increase the distractions going on over time. These are referred to as the 3 D's of dog training. We always set dogs up for success with a balance of successful reps and some reps that require feedback and guidance. Barney is working very hard at improving his duration, distance, and distractions for his down command. We are very proud of him 👏🐾💙
