As we witness the eclipse today and prophecize about its significance, we call into question the maddness that has befallen the animal welfare world. Individuals are giving up their pets faster than any system can support. Shelters across the country are bursting at the seams. Rescues are full. Vet clinics can’t keep up with the demand and the economy is pushing a bigger housing crisis than we ever thought possible. All of this will result in more animals being euthanized in shelters simply because there is no space or resources to support this burden. We’ve already seen the euthanasia numbers in Virginia increase dramatically in the past two years. Please—we are begging you—unless your pet is being abused, neglected or is a danger to your family, keep your pet OUT of the shelter system. We already offer free pet food, free vaccines, free spay/neuter and free emergency boarding. Stop lying about the “stray” dog you found that is chipped to you, stop bringing animals to RACC from surrounding counties, stop abandoning animals at our doorstep. This is a widespread community breakdown and we are trying our best to save every life we can. Please HELP US DO THAT, by keeping your owned pet out of the shelter. End scene. 😎🙏😎
