The amazing bird show at Beauval Zoo in Normandy, France. They flew a hundred soecies including many species of hawks, eagles(Stellars Sea Eagles, Bateleur Eagles), vultures, pelicans, storks, cranes, ducks, geese, swans, conures in flocks, macaws, cockatoos (4 kinds), African Grays, and many others - over 400 birds all flying at once! It was simply spectacular. I have never seen anything like it.

We visited Beauval as part of a bird conference for the International Wild Waterfowl Association and visited collections in Belgium and France

Baby season is well underway! Curl baby number two just fledged today, joining its sibling who fledged a day ago. Mum and dad did a fantastic job. They will be pulled in shortly to finish off hand-reared. So cute 🥰

We’ve been keeping this one quiet for a while! We have achieved a first breeding award for the Groove-billed Toucanet (Aulacorhynchus sulcatus) which Jerry is being awarded for this year from AFA. We hatched 9 last year. We have one tame male available as well as an unrelated pair and a few single males. If you’d like to get involved with this rare species then reach out!

This is Christina! She was raised by her parents and finished off by us last year. An absolute cuddle bug and one of the sweetest curls I’ve ever met 😍 She’s still looking for her new home (for some reason everyone wants males?!) Give us an email at [email protected] to find out more info about her if you think you might be her people!

We have two really friendly Venezuelan collared aracaris that are looking for their new homes. This local is larger than the Central American collared. They are both hand-raised and bred here at EFBG. Send us a message or email to find out more.

Our continuing saga to see the Hippos in the Magdalena River was successful. While there are over 160 of them in the Magdalena, they are spread out along 100 miles of river, so the population density is very low. We spent our time where the Rio Claro meets the Magdalena and there are only 4 hippos in this area. Nevertheless, they are very aggressive and chased our boat. They were hard to photograph as they stayed under water until the charge, so it was difficult to know where to look. All of a sudden they would pop up, and if too close, the boat driver had to hit the gas! They were inky visible for a few seconds with each charge
