On this Fourth of July week, nothing says “freedom” like surviving a month-long cicada screamfest!
After 17 years underground and one very loud month topside, the Cicada Invasion of 2025 is finally winding down—and honestly? Just in time for the next round of screaming: your neighbor’s fireworks display and your uncle yelling at the grill.

Some Cape towns (hi, Upper Cape) are finally quieting down, while others are still hosting full-on bug concerts.
If the buzzing has stopped and you’re no longer ducking red-eyed screamers on your deck, you can safely remove any netting from your trees.
🌳 Still hearing the noise? Keep the nets up a bit longer.

Now that the cicadas have screamed, molted, mated, and peaced out, your trees may be showing the signs—especially flagging damage: wilted or broken twigs, usually right at the tips.
💨 A gust of wind and SNAP. So go ahead and give those branches a little post-bug pruning. They’ve been through it.
