Karl absolutely loves the fireplace. Being a chihuahua, he loves to burrow under covers in my bed and any chance he gets to warm his hiney on cool winter nights by the fire is a plus, lol. Karl can be a bit sassy as most Chi’s are and he’s not one to want to cuddle. However, he insists on sleeping on my left side under his favorite fleece blanket. He’s 14 so he has all kinds of opinions, lol.
Tomorrow snow is coming and we’ll all be hunkered down with blankets, a toasty fire and movies.

With the mild temps the last few days I was able to do a complete yard 💩 pickup! If you have dogs, you know how awesome this is in the middle of winter!! Otherwise spring in March/April is a bit scary, lol.
Today is a restful day. Fireplace going and at the moment the crew is napping.

Yappy came down with a tummy bug Friday morning. He ate breakfast but lost it 20 minutes later. He did not eat supper Friday night and refused breakfast and supper on Saturday. I started Cerenia to treat his nausea and watched to make sure he was drinking water. Dehydration for dogs can be deadly. He was drinking water so I waited to see what Sunday would bring. He did not eat breakfast but ate some rice and scrambled eggs at supper time. Today, he ate both breakfast and supper so he’s on the mend.
Yappy’s age is unknown but bassd on teeth, I’d say at least 10. He came from Tennessee, heart worm positive.
Yappy is an independent boy, but every so often he climbs in bed, lol.
I’m glad he’s feeling better♥️.

Cookie Face (Cooper) was helped to Heaven this morning at 9:15. With her head cradled in my hands and looking in my eyes, she fell softly asleep.
I’ve never had a Beagle here and she certainly taught me a lot about her breed. She had a bay that could wake the neighborhood and a nose that controlled everywhere she went, lol. She was obsessed with food and chasing the squirrels in my back yard. Cookie was aloof and rarely asked or wanted attention. Every so often though, she would come to me for an ear rub or back scratches. Those were special because it was always on her terms. She knew she was loved and that is what matters.
Cookie was 16, I was blessed to be her last soft place to land💜.

Flash back video from 2020. Wendy-Lou is at the bridge now but I think of her from time to time. She was my sassy mouthed, independent girl who stole my heart. There’s a special place in my heart for Bassetts. Wendy-Lou was my first but I’ve had 2 others after her, Stretch and Big Foot. They too are at the bridge now.
All dogs are precious but Bassetts hold a special place for me. 🥰♥️

A low of -17 predicted tonight. This is deadly cold for pets. Please be sure and watch your pets closely when you let them out to potty, little feet and ears freeze quickly in this cold. Wind chills of 35 to 45 below expected.
Here at TJ’s, we’re all hunkering down by the fire.

It’s late afternoon and we are all crawling in bed for a movie and a nap.
Yappy decided to join, he rarely does. I’m so glad to see him want to part of it all🥰.

Cooper, Crazy Cookie, Cookie Face.. these are the names I call her 🥰. This is my favorite picture of her, but I have many.
Shortly after she arrived here at TJ’s, I noticed excessive drinking and peeing. I thought it was age but tests pointed to Cushing’s. Together with her vet, we decided to monitor her due to her advanced age of 16. Because of the danger of uterine infections, I have not diapered her. I did try but her diaper would be soaked within 2 hours and that’s just a breeding ground for infections. So, I’ve been using white towels to mop up her accidents in the house and then bleach/wash them as well as hygienic wipes to keep her clean. Her diet was changed to senior grain free due to excessive diarrhea. This is common with Cushing’s. Over the past month she has lost strength in her legs and is starting to struggle with the one step to go outside and get back in. She is now almost completely incontinent. She pees about every 20 minutes with me following behind with a towel. If I don’t catch it quick enough, she will try and drink it. This is no way for a beautiful girl to live. Her constant craving, insatiable need to drink anything is hard to watch. This coupled with her failing body has let me know it’s time to let her go.
Soon I’ll make her appointment so she can rest easy.
