Several of our Animal Services Officers and shelter staff had the opportunity to attend this invaluable workshop hosted by Garland Animal Services, Operation Kindness, and Mike Wheeler. Today, our team got a call about a beagle who "served" up a surprise appearance at the Pickleball World Championship in Farmers Branch. Dressed to the nines with a hat and paddle, this little guy was clearly ready to d**k his way to the finals! 🎾

Don’t forget to come visit us at Brookdale Senior Living this Saturday from 10am - 1pm to meet your new best friend!

We’ll be set up in the court yard area so Brookdale residents have the opportunity to meet our adoptable animals, but the general public is welcome!

Adoption fees are waived and all animals include core vaccines, a microchip, sterilization surgery, and a free first exam at a local vet clinic!

Farmers Branch Animal Services has been made aware of a complaint regarding possible animal neglect in the 3000 block of Valwood. Our Animal Control Officers have visited the property and are actively conducting an investigation into the incident. At this time, no further information is available.

🚨 Beware of Pet Reclaim Scams! 🚨

Losing a pet is stressful, and scammers may try to take advantage of your desire to bring your furry friend home. Here’s how these scams work and how to protect yourself.

⚠️ How Pet Reclaim Scams Work:

• Scammers often respond to your “Lost Pet” posts or flyers, claiming they have your pet. Some may use AI-generated images or stolen photos to make their story seem more convincing.
• They might demand a “reward” or “finder’s fee” before returning your pet and will push you to send money quickly through apps like Venmo, Cash App, or gift cards.
• Some scammers pretend to be from a shelter or rescue organization and ask for payment before the pet can be “released.”

⚠️ Red Flags to Watch For:

• AI-Generated or Fake Photos: Scammers may send images of pets that look real but don’t match the details of your pet exactly. Always ask for specific details or markings that only your pet would have.
• Requests for payment in exchange for sending “proof” they have your pet.
• Payment through non-refundable methods like gift cards, wire transfers, or mobile payment apps.
• Rushed communication using urgent language to pressure you into acting quickly.

🔑 How to Protect Yourself:

1. Verify the claim: Ask for recent photos and specific details about your pet. If you suspect the image is AI-generated or stolen, look closely for inconsistencies in details.
2. Don’t rush: Scammers often use urgency to pressure you. Take your time to verify everything.
3. Meet in a safe location: Ask them to take your pet into your local animal shelter where you can reclaim.
4. Report scams: If you think someone is trying to scam you, report it to local authorities and animal services.

Legitimate finders and shelters focus on reuniting you with your pet, not demanding payment upfront. Farmers Branch Animal Services will never demand payment over the phone or by any means other than visiting our shelter.

Stay alert to these tactics to make sure you and your pets stay safe!

Farmers Branch Animal Adoption Center is bursting at the seams with cats, and we urgently need special fosters for ringworm and FCOV/FIV-positive cats. Fostering is ALWAYS free, with no commitment to adopt, and it will truly save lives by allowing our staff to focus on the most critically at-need residents.

In addition, adoption fees are waived for ALL cats and for ANY animal that has been in our care for more than 30 days. This includes free cat adoptions until this Saturday 10/12! 🐱❤️

We are so excited to share a happy reunion story about Chief, a lively Husky who recently escaped from his new dad. Chief went on quite the adventure, but thanks to facial recognition technology powered by Petco Love, he was safely reunited with his family!

This powerful tool is a new addition to our pet reunification efforts at Farmers Branch Animal Services. If you should ever lose your pet, we encourage you to visit https://petcolove.org/lost/ to report it. The tool scans local participating shelters, making it easier to find your pet and bring them home quickly.

Chief left our facility with updated vaccinations and a new microchip, just in case he decides to go on another adventure!

We are beyond thrilled to share the happiest update—Cookie has found her forever home! A wonderful family took the time to visit Cookie over several days, getting to know her gentle soul and building the trust she so deeply needed. Slowly but surely, they fell head over heels for our sweet girl, and Cookie fell right back.

Cookie will now be living her best life, complete with a pool to splash in, an endless supply of pup cups, and all the love her heart could ever want. Her new family is already over the moon about adopting Cookie, and we know this is the peaceful, loving home Cookie has been waiting for.

We can't wait to see all the pictures and updates of Cookie enjoying her golden years in pure bliss. Thank you to everyone who shared her story and sent well-wishes. Cookie’s journey from uncertainty to happiness is a reminder of the incredible power of love and patience. Here's to Cookie, living the good life!
