Hi, Tink here! I know its been a while, sorry about that, I've been busy training. Can you believe I'm already a year old?!?! My birthday was September 30th! Well, I better sign off and hit the hay (figuratively speaking of course), hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving! Eat lots of turkey and sweet potatoes for me!

Hey, Hi, Hello! It's me, Tink! Can you believe how much I've grown?? I'm still out working my nose almost every day and I think I'm getting pretty good at it. Maybe this week Dad will remember to get a video so I can show you all what I can do!

We got a ways to go but we aren't worried because Tink is smart. Smarter than his humans are most likely! Check out the part where he catches some scent in the wind and goes the wrong way!

Did you know, breeds such as Labrador Retriever, Cur, Slovensky Kopov, Bloodhound, Lacie, Drahthaar and German Wire-Haired Dachshund are bred to have traits for scent tracking. With proper training, these dogs can be made into excellent blood trailing deer dogs.

Tink is a rescued Labrador Retriever mix. As you can see, he's getting his sniffer cleaned and ready to train.

One thing that I personally believe makes a well rounded dog, whether you train them for a task or just have as a family pet, is to experience everything. Tink has been wearing different sweaters and coats this week. Some day, when he's ready to work it may be cold enough to need a coat or an orange vest for hunting season. This will help him learn to be okay wearing things. Early exposure is important.

What is a scent tracking dog?

Tink is being trained for Deer tracking. Game recovery dogs follow the scent of a deer's blood, bone, glands etc. Well-trained dogs can focus on an individual deer's scent while ignoring the smell of others in the area.

Hello! Tink is a 10 week old lab mix puppy that we're working with a trainer to learn scent tracking. We're so excited to begin this journey and we hope you all enjoy watching and maybe even learning something along the way with us!
