Apollo was put to sleep last night.
Yesterday Apollo ripped one of his stitches out. yes he was wearing his cone, I don't know how it happened except that the cone was too big for him and may have slipped down over his shoulders as he pushed against the kennel walls/door to get to me. All he wanted was to be held at all times.
I got him into the carrier to take him to the emergency vet, and once I got buckled in, I noticed all the blood. He popped another stitch. I held the wound closed as we went to first one emergency vet, then another, but by the time we got there, he had lost too much blood. They said this kind of wound should never have bled that much and there was likely some underlying reason why he wasn't clotting. They recommend letting him go. I knew. He was not in good shape, he was already half a pound underweight for his age. He was such a fighter, but I couldn't force him to suffer like that. I held him and the last words he heard were "I love you so much."
I did take him to the vet Friday morning to ask about the bleeding I was noticing, they told me it was normal and to just keep cleaning the wound.
Please don't contact me about the rescue for a little while. I had already planned on taking a break for August. The only thing I have planned is getting all of Apollo's family fixed so this never happens again.
