Sugar Gliders!

Sugar gliders are small, nocturnal marsupials native to Australia, Indonesia, and New Guinea. They are known for their ability to glide through the air using a membrane of skin called a patagium that stretches from their wrists to ankles. This allows them to float up to half the length of a football field

Understanding Conjunctivitis (Pink Eye) in Dogs

Conjunctivitis, often called pink eye, refers to inflammation of the conjunctiva, a mucous membrane that covers the white part of the eyeball and lines the eyelids, similar to the lining of the mouth and nose.

Causes of Conjunctivitis:
🐾 Primary vs. Secondary: Diagnosis determines if conjunctivitis is a standalone issue or secondary to other eye conditions.
🐾 Common Cause: Allergies are the most typical cause in dogs, often leading to secondary bacterial infections due to immunosuppression.
🐾 Rare Cause: Fungal conjunctivitis is uncommon in dogs.

Symptoms to Watch For:
🐾 Eye discharge (cloudy, yellow, or green)
🐾 Squinting or excessive blinking
🐾 Redness or swelling around the eyes

Did you know your dog’s diet can play a big role in managing allergies? Unlike people, a dog’s GI tract can be a source of allergic reactions. Feeding table scraps, too many treats, or frequently switching their food can trigger skin and ear allergies.

Meet the Axolotl!

The axolotl (Ambystoma mexicanum) is a salamander that doesn't go through metamorphosis. Instead, it retains its juvenile features, like gills and other larval characteristics, and lives in water for its entire life.

Axolotl’s are commonly used in research settings due to their ability to regenerate limbs!

If you have any friends with axolotls, the MAH family would love to see them!
