WARNING! Contains foul language

A Key West man has been cleared of all charges by a jury after an FWC officer entered his home, a houseboat, and shot him.

Adam Bounds had filed a complaint to the Office of the Inspector General about FWC officers continually boarding his houseboat without a warrant, including while he was not present. Less than two hours after he filed the complaint, FWC Captain David Dipre boarded his houseboat and shot him three times.

Dipre gave conflicting accounts at trial. He claimed that as he opened the door, Bounds was holding a lit lighter and dumping gasoline on himself, but also claimed that Bounds charged him and then grabbed the gas can. Dipre claimed that Bounds threatened to blow up the boat and that he ordered him to drop the lighter. Dipre apparently then shot Bounds through a curtain.

The lighter, gas can, and curtain were not collected as evidence and presented at trial. Dipre was not wearing a body camera, though other officers on the scene were.

An officer was heard on bodycam audio saying, "I say we, uh, we get the f**k out of here.” Another officer said, “Captain’s feeling frisky.”

Body cam recordings captured Bounds yelling “Get the f**k off my boat!,” but nothing could be heard about blowing up the boat or about Dipre ordering Bounds to drop the lighter.

Bounds was shot in the chest, the abdomen, and the wrist. As he lay critically injured, Monroe Sherriff's Deputy Thomas Fricke ordered him to, "Just f**kin’ stand up. Take it like a man. Stop whining.” The officers arrested Bounds. He was charged with attempted arson and assault on law enforcement officers.

After deliberating for around three hours, the jury found Bounds "Not Guilty" on all charges.

It may be in a new city but it is the same great Reptile Super Show. The Vegas edition hits town for the first time this weekend and it is going to be big! Come and see why h**p keepers flock to southern California for the Super Shows. This is a reptile show like Vegas has never seen and you do not want to miss it! The USARK benefit auction is right after the show on Saturday night and just down the hallway in the convention center. Stick around and support our work to protect your freedom to have reptiles and amphibians as pets. The auction is FREE to attend and everyone is welcome. Hidden Forest Art Gallery has graciously donated a fabulous original painting (pic below). This time we have the "Sri Lankan Snake Charmer" featuring cobras, Russell's viper, and a rock python. It is an 18x24" oil on canvas piece. Thank you, Gamini and Lisa! This is just one of the hundreds of donations that will be at the auction.
