That's what we do!

K9 Samantha and her handler were called in to help search for a missing juvenile in Bridgeview. The missing juvenile had become upset and fled on foot from their home. After being given the scent of the juvenile from articles of clothing, K9 Samantha began to trail the child from their home through a commercial business area to a park nearly two miles away where our officers found the juvenile hiding in some trees. The juvenile was reunited with their family and was offered services and resources.

Dedicated to all who DO NOT love dogs…

I can't take him to the beach for a walk because it annoys you and disturbs your vacation.

I have no right to rent a house if I have a dog, nor can I take him on public transportation.

You complain if I take him onto the patio of a restaurant because you can't eat when an animal is near.

However, I can take him to the rubble to find you after an earthquake…

In the woods after you got lost in the mountains and had no map or GPS…

Under the snow because you took a detour forbidden off the track…

In the water because despite the red flag you have entered the sea, and your life is in danger!

And finally...
He is just a dog, but he or she will find you…
AND WILL SAVE YOU!

Buddy Report: Doing quite well, enjoying the new digs. Loves the out of doors but loves the LL Bean beds scattered around the house just as much. Strangers don't seem to merit his time or attention, but trespassing squirrels and yard bunnies are a priority. Seems to be getting healthier every day and he would have no trouble doing an audition for a dog food commercial at a moment's notice. Late next week he's having some bodywork done and maybe next year we'll start evaluating his hind quarters to see if a correction would be beneficial.

Welcome to the newest member of the household, Buddy. This sweet old boy came to us through DFW Rescue Me without any history. Maybe he was picked up, maybe he was dropped off, we just don't know but he was someone's dog. Being treated now for HW, he has some skin problems and about a dozen lumps, some that need to come off and checked ASAP. Biggest difficulty he has is a problem with his rear structure causing him difficulty walking and keeping his balance. Possibly hips, maybe an old leg break that was never addressed properly but we're on a mission to help this boy enjoy life. Step 1 was to cut the eagle talons he was trying to walk on, step 2 is a good bath and step 3 is a trip to the vet. By the weekend, we'll have assessed what's going on and begin making sure his energy can come out whenever he wants.

It's been a few days since he's passed but our beloved Doug crossed over due to a very fast spreading lymphosarcoma.

Doug was a wonderful guy who was brought to us by DFW Rescue Me at about 5 years old as an owner surrender. Although it was obvious that this sweet hound once knew the strap, he was very lonely and confused. His willingness to trust us as his new family paid him in dividends for the next 3 years of his life. New sister Ellie Mae, another DFW Rescue Me alumni, showed him the ropes about how to best relax and inject himself into our everyday lives. Great quality food and treats, plenty of squeaky toys, luxurious LL Bean beds, everyday walks, regular baths and medical care would be the new norm which is pretty much status quo around here.

When Ellie Mae passed, Doug became the sole protector of the house and he did his job well. Amazon, FedEx and USPS delivery people knew they were in for some big-time Bloodhound scolding when they approached. They all retreated back to their vehicles laughing and looking forward to the next scheduled trespass. If someone walked by the front of the house, there was always a chance that they could slip into the back yard so that's where he needed to post and holler for a few minutes.

Early morning walks around the park which happened mostly on a daily basis for three years, just added to his fan base. Everyone always broke a smile or had a thumbs-up when Doug started singing his greeting. Back at the house it was Doug's job to make sure every meal, whether prepared or bought, was free of any contaminants that could have harmed his people. Pizza was especially suspect and had to be sampled regularly.

So many stories can be told of his everyday antics, his habits, his communication methods and the absolute joy and fun we've had with him. I honestly can't think back and remember a bad time. There's a big hole in our hearts that will be next to impossible to fill and it will take a long time to heal.
