She has mentored some of the younger male juveniles here at Big Sky, and we are grateful for her help. But now she says she is ready to retire from all that and focus on finding a special someone or a family of her very own.

We're back! These are just a few of the cuties ready to make your acquaintance at the Calico Cat Cafe! Visit us to meet your newest family member! Adoption fees start at $95 for adults and $125 for kittens, and that fee includes spay/neuter surgery, all age appropriate vaccinations, parasite prevention AND a microchip! Several hundred dollars worth of medical care for a small fee to ensure a long life with a healthy pet!

Calico Cat Cafe kitties have been rescued from high kill shelters throughout Louisiana and other unfortunate circumstances, many arriving with illness or injury. (The little orange guy was thrown from a car.) They received medical treatment and daily care from Big Sky Ranch/CATNIP Foundation thanks to support from nice folks like you. The Calico Cat Cafe provides a comfortable setting to meet and pet all the animals while finding the best match for your family. Organic coffee, tea, and snacks available for a small donation. The Calico Cat Café will be closed Friday, July 1 through Monday, July 4. If you are planning a visit to meet adoptable pets, we are open today from 3 to 5pm and tomorrow from 11am to 5pm.

Time flies by so fast, and it's hard to believe more than 4,000 animals have come through our doors since we moved to this location in 2021! This weekend, we will be closed to the public for just a few days while we tackle some much needed building maintenance, deep cleaning, repairs, and AC work.

We welcome help from volunteers! Especially those with any kind of experience in construction, sheetrock patching or painting, or electrical installation.

If you are planning a visit to meet adoptable pets at the Calico Cat Cafe, we are open for adoptions today from 3-5pm and tomorrow from 11am to 5pm.

Venice is begging you to come out to the kitten shower tomorrow! Cinder and Amos are resting up for the big day so they have all the energy to work their kitty magic and get a new home!

If you would like to come see these sweet faces along with MANY more you should join us for an afternoon of refreshments, foster fun, adoptions and plenty of kitty cuddles! Gizmo and Stripe were adopted from Big Sky together in 2018. Like so many families these days, they find themselves in a situation where it's just not possible to keep the cats they love. We would love to help these beautiful, sweet kitties find a home where they can continue receiving the care and attention they are used to, even if it's a temporary foster care arrangement. Cats experience more stress in a shelter environment, so allowing these 2 cuties to hang out for a while at your place will go a long way to help keep them healthy while they find their forever place.

These beautiful flame point ladies are looking for a home together.

They were adopted from us 5 years ago, and in recent years their owner encountered, as we all have, some very hard times. She wasn't able to provide the flea prevention her cats needed, but she loved them and cared for them the best she could. Eventually they lost their home and were forced to move into a small mobile home with a family member. Without prevention and treatment, fleas came into the home and ignited an allergic reaction in one of the cats. The owner was distraught that she couldn't provide relief for the cat, and then their power was cut off. The heat and moisture caused a terrible reaction in the allergic cat's skin, and this was the last straw. She could no longer watch her cats suffer, and she made the very difficult decision to return them to us. We offered to provide the flea treatment, but she said she was committed to finding a better life for them than she is able to provide. Sacrificing the cats she loved was a painfully emotional decision she did not take lightly.

Yasu and Shin are looking for the kind of love and attention they are accustomed to. They have been through lots of change, and they would love to find a quiet place to relax and get some pets while hearing someone whisper kindly "I've got you now, and everything is going to be ok."

This story, as devastating as it is, happens multiple times a day at shelters across our communities and the whole country. The only way out of this situation is with your help. Do you have room in your heart and your home to give these girls another chance at life?

Hi! Scooter here!

Sending a big MEOW out to the really nice people at Vermilion Parish Rabies Animal Control & Animal Aid for Vermilion Area (AAVA) for helping me get off the street and on my way to a new start. Just wanted to let you know that I'm doing MUCH better now! I am comfortable and healthy, and I have received lots of medical care from Big Sky Ranch/CATNIP Foundation. I hear people saying that I'm all ready to go home! I've had my vaccinations, my neuter surgery, got my microchip, and all the parasite prevention to keep me flea and worm free. There's just one thing...I still need to find my forever family.

I'm here at the Calico Cat Café hoping to find a special place where both my kung-fu-style play and my snuggle-rubby side will be appreciated. I'd love a family with kids! And I would be equally thrilled to have a single person of my very own. I am ready to give back all the love that has and will come my way, whether we are a family of 2 or many. Please visit this weekend from 11am until 5pm today and Saturday and noon to 3pm on Sunday because I am ready for you!

Update! Schneider is home!

Hello! My name is Spumoni, and I’m here at the Calico Cat Café while I wait to meet my forever family. My journey getting here has been rough, but I am grateful for my health and the nice people at Big Sky Ranch/CATNIP Foundation who helped me get this far.

Not very long ago I was a kitten. And way too soon I was pregnant with my own babies. Someone tried to help me by bringing me to a rural shelter, and I had my babies there. I was doing the best I could with my own milk, but we were all struggling to gain weight and stay healthy. It was an uncertain and stressful time for us.

I moved again when my babies were just a few days old and we all arrived at Big Sky CARES, where we were put on a treatment and nutrition regimen that lasted a few weeks helped us become healthy and strong.

We moved again, and this move was very special to me. Big Sky had placed me in a foster home. After having to grow up fast and be a young mom, I finally had someone who wanted to take care of ME while I raised my babies and taught them the basics. And they helped with the babies too, keeping them up to date on all the treatments at the clinic. I am so, so grateful for the foster care that allowed me to relax and care for my family in a safe place away from the shelter. My foster family helped me get my babies ready for adoption, and today they are all in loving, forever homes. Thank you, foster family, for being there when I needed you. Thanks to you, I am ready for the next stop on my journey. I’ve done my job, and I am ready to go home.

So here I am at the Calico Cat Cafe, waiting to find my forever place. I never really did get to be a kitten, so I have a lot of playing and care-free sunbeam napping to catch up on.
