The purchase of a well bred purebred did not sentence another dog to death.
The purchase of a well bred purebred did not cause an increase in the number of dogs in shelter.
Someone wanting a dog with a predictable temperament from healthy lineage did not cause another dog to not get adopted.
Someone's meticulous research and support of only the most responsible of breeders is not the problem. It is not what you should be mad at. It is not what you should be pushing the blame onto.
I am not the one who brought these dogs into the world irresponsibly and left them in a shelter. Responsible breeders are not the ones who put dogs into shelters either.
It is my home, my life, and my choice of what kind of dog to bring into it. Maybe I needed a working dog, a sport dog, or simply a companion puppy to raise of a breed I enjoy. No matter the reason, the choice to support a reputable breeder did not send a shelter dog to its death.
A breeder who health tests, temperament tests, studies pedigrees, proves a dog worthy of being bred, and only breeds when doing so is of benefit to the breed is not contributing to the number of homeless dogs.
The number of homeless dogs in the world is a problem, but it is not a problem exacerbated by reputable breeders and those who purchase from them.
Your neighbor down the street who refuses to contain his unaltered dogs IS contributing to the problem.
Your friend who impulse bought a dog at Pet Land IS contributing to the problem.
That guy on Craigslist pumping out the trendiest designer mix as fast as he can IS contributing to the problem.
Your relative who just HAS to let their dog have one litter “so she can experience motherhood” or because “she’s just so sweet” IS contributing to the problem.
Your old high school classmate who bought a high energy working breed without taking the time to research its needs and realize it was not a good fit for their household ahead of time IS contributing to the problem.
A reputable breeder offers their lifelong support. A reputable breeder would never allow their dogs to end up in a shelter to begin with. A reputable breeder makes it a contractual obligation to return dogs they have produced back to them should you find yourself unable of keeping it.
It is understandable to be angry about the number of homeless dogs in the world, but if you take a deeper look, you will find your anger is misplaced.
If you take a deeper look, you will find reputable breeders and those of us who purchase from them are just as angry, we are just pointing fingers at the right causes.

In conclusion, Blaming responsible breeders for shelter dogs is like blaming Harvard graduates for crack babies.

Great advice!!!

Three generations of my family had chihuahuas, my parents & I in total have had 13 chihuahuas some breeder puppies & some that were rescues. We learned long ago the fears of low blood sugar happening so nutrical always on hand with tiny ones, to be extremely careful to not let a fall happen or anything as such for the hydrocephalus many have at birth & know how the slightest impact can be a broken leg, a dislocated jaw we've not had such an accident but always have kept a puppy safe in a covered play yard or similar & do not let puppies up on anything as a puppy as it takes only seconds for one to tumble off & that can not just seriously injur but even kill a fragile puppy. We do not send money blindly, most all true breeders have a process. Many you can go in person soon after birth & once you see the puppies a reserve may need to be made right then & you return to pick up when age ready. Others who maybe don't breed regularly but have a litter or that don't have teacups (although it can be difficult to tell as puppies we've had a 4 mo old weigh 11 ounces grow to 4 lbs, then another nearly the same size same age turn out weighing near 12lbs) but as long as a breeder is within the state we will drive to see, connect & pay cash in person. We too lost a unique quirky wonderful royal princess as we always told her, just a few months ago, a vet we will never go to again, admitted that he did too much gripping & pushing in her tummy area that it started a hemorrhage (we had liked the vet, but on this day he appeared so odd was too jovial & his exam as she was only in for a general checkup, was the most unusual he had her up in the air digging in her belly after already doing the standard full body exam & I hate to say this, it seemed as if it was a carefully thought out intentional action as instead of options he said she has mins to live do you want me to try to save her, if she doesn't make it he would reduce the charge as he started the issue which now we are able to think why was there a charge period he said $2500-$3000 max could put it on care credit bill came out over $3700 no reduction on costs at all, upon revisiting his office to talk on it all, he again admitted to causing it, but he documented it all he stated that he told one of us that she would not have survived surgery anyways (no he did not) then stated if charges contested he had all he needed to provide & win claim. I myself worked a pet crematory for a year, as I wanted to be the empathy the compassion the understanding of such tragic unexpected losses, or when one is your only companion - as I've been there. You can't allow yourself to feel desperate, it takes patience & will take time in these days, to find someone legitimate, but they are out there & you will know the legitimate as they too have suffered from all the scammers & will offer up all information as to their process, to include an address, ability to see parents on site, see all available before deciding & it could be hundreds to thousands depending on akc or health certificate, lineage, size etc. God Bless to all who are searching, stay strong & be prepared to wait have patience to avoid the scams.
