it's a shame the American public has been brainwashed to believe that there is a problem with white muzzles. It's a travesty those trusted to lead the breed, whether by helping write new standards, hold breed club positions or even those that judge and show dogs would chose to omit the most distinguishable color characteristic of the breed. White on the muzzle still exists in the Italian standard, yet has been omitted in the American standards. You cannot have Alaunt influence, Abruzzese influence without white. There should be no question about white on muzzles, rather question why some bloodlines have no white. The following quote is from research conducted by Paolo Paoletti in the 1970s. His sample group heavily favored individuals alive before the 1930s; people who lived their whole lives with the Cane Corso. The picture is of the dog most selected in Paoletti's survey as a correct representation of the breed. The video is of an available female I have that has been passed over more than once due to white on her muzzle. Compare the white pattern of both dogs.
"“I have been conducting a search for rural Corso dogs for some years and simultaneously have systematically conducted an opinion survey in the areas where this Molossian is more in use. Starting from the Salento, the Murge, the Capitanata and Lower Molise I moved inland towards Campobasso and Benevento. The method used, kept deliberately simple, was to show the people I interviewed postcard size photographs illustrating subjects having remarkable morphological differences and asking them to identify the dog which seemed the most representative to them. This is just going to be short and sweet. Rescued, then God came in the form of a tragedy when he took you home to be with all the other dogs of the world! Best you go find Pig Nugget and the Atchley pups! You can tell them we all miss them all and they are not forgotten about. I believe in you baby girl! And I love you with everything I have inside of me. Now I know why you were so insistent on all that you did. And why the world was like a big toy to you! Your time here was so short!
