Fairy Tails Rescue, Maryland

Fairy Tails Rescue, Maryland We are a foster-based rescue dedicated to saving homeless, abandoned or unwanted animals in danger of death, abuse or neglect. Hi everyone!

Just as a little background on us, Sarah and Jules, we are originally from Pugh Zoo Rescue. Sarah founded Pugh Zoo and ran it from 2014 to 2019 after fostering and volunteering for other rescues for several years. Jules was one of her best fosters and volunteers during that time. Over that 5yrs span thousands of lives were saved but sadly personal issues arose which forced a closure. Two years lat

er they have teamed up as Fairy Tails Rescue and can’t wait to save lives with the help of fans, family, friends and all those willing to join us on this journey!!

Adoptable Winston 😍

Winston is an 11 month old, 33 pound cutie who loves chasing tennis balls & birds & chewing Nylabones & tug toys. He is a happy, confident & cute little guy with a great personality. He loves to snuggle & gives gentle kisses. Winston is still a puppy & will need a family willing to continue working with him on basic manners, commands, chewing and digging. Winston is sometimes nervous when meeting new people & children, but when given proper space he warms up & becomes your best friend in no time. Winston has been working hard to overcome his crate anxiety, since coming into rescue has been his first experience with training. He has shown improvement since being with his foster family and given time, security and consistency, Winston will continue to improve. Winston loves his foster dog brothers & they all play very well together. Winston also does well with his foster cat brothers & shows normal interest in them. Winston is dearly loved by his foster family & will make another family incredibly happy. He would love to have a family willing to spend lots of time with him. He's a great shopper at Lowe's & Home Depot and is up for any other trip you're willing to take him on!!

Winston is neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations and is on monthly prevention for an adoption fee of $450. We know he will bring such joy to someone willing to give him a bit of time to continue to learn how to be the best boy he can be!

APPLICATION UNDER REVIEW!
Meet Ginger! Ginger is a 4.5 pound, 10 month old, adorable little lady. Under that lion’s mane is the sweetest pup that just wants to be loved. She is friendly with people, other dogs and is curious about everything! Ginger enjoys going outside and exploring the back yard or going for walks, and is good on a leash. She is also happy to just sit on the couch and take a snooze. Ginger is still working on her potty skills, but with well timed trips outside she has a good success rate. She is fine in her crate and has never had an accident in it. This girl will make a wonderful companion that would love to go everywhere with you. Due to her extremely small size she cannot go to a home with young children or much larger dogs who could accidentally injure her. Ginger is spayed, microchipped and up to date on preventatives with an adoption fee of $425. If you can give Ginger the furever home she deserves please fill out our adoption application at: https://form.jotform.com/fairytailsrescuemd/dogpuppy-adoption-application Thanks!

~Adopted December 2024~

Meet our little Parvo survivor, Doris…Dori for short! Doris and her brother Lefty were diagnosed with Parvo in September, and spent several days at the emergency vet receiving care. Unfortunately sweet Lefty passed, but his memory lives on in Dori! 🩵 Dori has been doing great the past 6 weeks in foster care, is strong and healthy and now deserves a home of her own!

Dori is inquisitive and friendly and is doing well with crate training. She is crated for a few hour increments during the day and throughout the night currently.
Dori does not have many accidents when taken out in routine intervals- which is amazing for such a little, young pup. Dori is a 4 month old, 19 pound girl who is full of life. 🩷 She has been around other dogs and children and loves everyone!

We are looking for a committed adopter, willing to take her out routinely for potty breaks, who will use positive reinforcement training techniques, and is willing to make a lifetime adoption commitment.

Dori is microchipped, on monthly prevention, has been dewormed, and is up-to-date on age appropriate vaccinations for an adoption fee of $450. $50 will be refunded after proof of age appropriate spay.

The rescue community lost an angel with wings yesterday. We are devastated to hear of the passing of Seuk Kim who helped deliver so many animals to safety. Seuk was a staple to the world of animal welfare and to our rescue. Seuk donated his time, plane, and fuel and has transported countless dogs and cats so that they could come into Fairy Tails Rescue to have a second lease on life.

Yesterday, Seuk helped to transport an animal to our rescue and headed to NY to take 3 additional dogs to another rescue. Unfortunately his plane crashed and he did not survive. Seuk was an angel on earth; this is a tremendous loss, as he was always happy to help animals in need.

We are sending our deepest condolences to Seuk’s family. He was a wonderful man and I hope you know the huge impact he made! These are only a handful of photos that reflect his selfless contributions to our rescue.

To Seuk, soar high and take care of all of the animals who cross the rainbow bridge. I know your kind smile will be there to greet them. You are already so missed! 💔

~Adoptable PGA Pete ⛳️ ~

Meet our handsome 35 pound boy, Pete! PGA Pete is about 9 months old and is people, dog and cat friendly! His foster raves about him and we know he will make someone/a family VERY happy!

Pete is inquisitive and silly and is doing well with crate training. Pete is continuing to progress with potty training when taken out routinely, but will need a patient adopter who will pick up on his signals to go out while he is still learning the “potty training ropes.”

We are looking for a committed adopter, willing to take him out routinely for potty breaks, who will use positive reinforcement training techniques, and is willing to make a lifetime adoption commitment.

Pete is neutered, microchipped, on monthly prevention, has been dewormed, and is up-to-date on age appropriate vaccinations for an adoption fee of $450.

Adopted!

Meet Rio! A 45 pound, 9 month old adorable pup who was found all alone behind a grocery store in Tortola. He is absolutely adorable, and such a fantastic dog who loves people, other dogs, and also cats!! Rio loves going for car rides and his favorite places are Chick-Fil-A, The Farmer’s Market and Lowe’s. He’s a social boy and is quite a catch!

A note from foster mom: “Rio is a such a sweet and goofy boy! He loves playing with his foster brothers and loves a good game of fetch. He will run in the yard, play with his own toys and even cuddle on the sofa when it is time to relax for the evening. He likes to know his human is close, but will also entertain himself sunbathing on the deck or chewing on toys.

He loves his 3 month old human foster sister and knows to be gentle with her.

He does really well in the kennel during the day and likes to cuddle in bed with his humans at night.

Rio is still a puppy so he has lots of energy and is working to learn what he can and cannot chew on. With that being said he does his best to be a very good boy and enjoys working on his leash manners on walks.

Rio may be a little nervous at first but is truly the sweetest guy. He is the total puppy package since he comes potty trained and is a highly treat motivated guy!!

He will steal your heart and make the best pup for the right family!”

If you are interested in getting approved to meet this boy, who is up to date on age appropriate vaccines, microchipped, neutered and on monthly preventatives, please complete the application below. His adoption fee is $450.

Adoptable Bella will be with Fairy Tails Rescue for 2 YEARS in December and she spent over a year previously in the shelter!! Please share to help our girl find her family! 🩷

Bella is a 4-year old girl who loves to play ball and spend time with her favorite people. She spent over a year in the shelter before we stepped up to rescue her and she came into rescue as a 60-pound bouncy girl without any manners or training. She can be excitable and greets new people with a loud, deep bark, which can be intimidating to some, but then she settles in and just wants to be loved all over. Bella loves to go for walks and is well on her way to making walks enjoyable. She does fine with other dogs when properly introduced slowly, but needs someone who will give her time to slowly acclimate to her new surroundings. Bella is looking for a patient, consistent adopter who will help her continue to build confidence and work on her training. She is very food motivated and will do almost anything for a treat. Bella does not need to be crated and can be left loose in the house without getting into trouble but will go into a crate willingly if needed. She has a lot of love to give and we are really hoping to find her a forever home soon! It may be easy for some to pass Bella by because she needs continued training and slower introductions, but if you give Bella a true, fair chance, you’ll find she is very eager to please and would love nothing more than to be your best little buddy. Please complete the application below if you are interested in getting approved to meet her! She is spayed, vaccinated and microchipped for an adoption fee of $325.

WHEN SECONDS COUNT

This post is not advocating that dogs meet every other dog, but about how to go about it, if and when it does happen, in a safer way.

The 3 second rule for dogs meeting each other is used as a guideline to help foster positive introductions, prevent either dog from feeling overwhelmed or trapped and prevent any potential reactivity and stress.

A short 3 second introduction is enough time to provide important information to both dogs.

Enough information for dogs to know – “are you a threat?”, “do I like you?”, “do I want to learn more about you?”, “do I really dislike you?”, “do I need you to go away?” etc. Both dogs may not feel the same way – one may not be happy to engage while the other may want to.

All interactions should ideally happen like this, not just initially. Just like us, dogs can have off days – things like pain, trigger stacking, lack of sleep or a host of other reasons can influence whether a dog wants to interact or not.

There are countless times I have witnessed meetings or introductions between dogs that have gone on just a few seconds too long and have not ended well. This can have long lasting effects on future behaviour when meeting other dogs.

Understanding body language is critically important. If we are going to share our lives with another species, protect them, advocate for them and help them feel safe, then we need to understand and respect their language.

The examples in this post of red and green flags are just a few general ones to look out for – there are many more and these will differ depending on the individual dog, context and circumstances.

Here are some resources and links to learn more about body language -
