FEB. 9, 2022 UPDATE ON KITTIES PULLED DURING 2015 - 2016

RILEY (formerly Burney, A641743) had what sounded like a great offer as a working cat. After he was fixed, we made a long drive to do the site check and took him with us. The site check revealed the location was not safe enough and the property owner was not sufficiently concerned with his welfare. In a lost day that culminated in an awkward moment, we decided to bring Riley back with us.

JASMINE (formerly Dapple, A642368) was feral, but tiny. Devore est. she was three years old, but she appeared to be under a year old and was too small to be put back outside. By the time she grew a little more, we felt she had been inside too long to return to the outdoors, and she was still a small cat.
~
ASHLYN (L'Amour, A636725) was between three and four months old, She was a feral kitten that arrived sick. She tested positive for FeLV, so she was kept isolated from other cats. After she was well, socialized, plumped up and playful, a lab test revealed she was not FeLV positive. A foster took her to adoptions, and someone applied to adopt her, but it did not go through. She has since remained healthy, but gravitated to hanging out with unsocialized kitties.

Note: Roughly half the cats pulled that were RO for behavior were friendly; and the other half were in varying degrees of socialization with some acting very feral and others that didn't like being handled, but were otherwise friendly. Most that are still with us now are either from the second group above or had long-term medical issues that prevented adoption.

ABOUT US. We are not the Devore shelter and have no influence over shelter operation or decisions. We are not Kitty Devore Rescue Network—a great organization, but also a separate rescue. We are volunteers that network the rescue only kitties for rescue—to save their lives and help them find a safe and loving home. We pulled a number of kitties in the past and will be pulling again in the future when bills are paid.

We believe no healthy or treatable animal should be put to death over a lack of space or treatable illness. Since late 2015, over 900 cats have come under our wing and most have been adopted. We cannot pull more cats under our rescue until a few things are done. The largest obstacle to returning to pulling again is payment of outstanding vet bills. Until that time, we continue to take care of the animals that remain under our wing, while we seek homes and special placements for them.

SHELTER ADOPTION. The general public cannot adopt an animal classified as "rescue only" directly from the Devore shelter, however, any Devore-approved 501(c)(3) rescue can pull the animal and may request an extension of time for these cats. In some cases, there are exceptions if an adopter agrees to get the cat to a vet right away. Contact the Devore shelter for details.

ABOUT US. We are not the Devore shelter and have no influence over shelter operation or decisions. We are not Kitty Devore Rescue Network—a great organization, but also a separate rescue. We are volunteers that network the rescue only kitties for rescue—to save their lives and help them find a safe and loving home. We pulled a number of kitties in the past and will be pulling again in the future when bills are paid.

We believe no healthy or treatable animal should be put to death over a lack of space or treatable illness. Since late 2015, over 900 cats have come under our wing and most have been adopted. We cannot pull more cats under our rescue until a few things are done. The largest obstacle to returning to pulling again is payment of outstanding vet bills. Until that time, we continue to take care of the animals that remain under our wing, while we seek homes and special placements for them.
