All IAED certified EqDTs, aspiring students soon to be, and horse owners that are clients of them—

This is to legalize our profession in South Dakota and hopefully bridge the gap between veterinarians and qualified equine dental providers. This morning house bill 1176 that we drafted was passed by the ag committee. We still have lots of leg work. The best thing we can do now is have anyone who is in support to email a 2-5 sentence testimony to all 70 SD house of legislators WHY you want this bill to pass or why you use your equine dental tech!

This helps the industry make steps toward legalizing our profession in as many states as possible.

Please copy all 70 of these emails listed below to send your testimonies for HB 1176. We will post the same list in the comments.

Well that was a cold start to the year and lots of strange white stuff from the sky!!!

Now that we are starting to warm back up some it's time to get your horses teeth checked and takin care of.
If you are seeing the below issues please reach out

Ok testing the waters with this 2017 models we'll papered started head horse! Started right in the cow horse training plan, after spending a few years as an every day ranch horse. The handle he has is amazing, spin, roll back and stops deep, stands nice and quite in the box rates and tracks like one should.
Standing 15.2 HH and around 1200-1300 lbs. has an another month or 2 in training to finish up becoming and knock out head horse. Up to date on teeth feed and vet. Loads well and has some very kind eyes. Location forestburg but in training in Whitesboro TX. Pm for more information more pics in comments

So here we are, almost through yet another year.

Have you had your horses teeth checked?
If not are you seeing any issues like below❗️

Please reach out to get your guys on the books so they can get as much nutrition out of their feed as they can and back to feeling the best they can.

❗️Dropping feed
❗️Tilted head while chewing
❗️Excess saliva
❗️Dropping weight
❗️Fighting the bit
❗️Loss of fine movement while riding.

Any one of these can be a sign they have a small to big dental issue going on and not just being fresh or an attitude issue.
Remember it is best to have there dental exams done at least once a year.

As summer is coming to an end, let's talk about making sure your horses are ready for the colder weather by getting their teeth in the best working order as possible.

Well written by Josh Wallace another great equine dentist.

He hits the nail right on the head with this one.

Horse dental maintenance is one of the cheapest input costs you have when figured on a per ride/day/training session basis-

Here’s the expense breakdown, using round numbers for ease of calculation, (although we all know the variables of prices and quality) by breaking it down into input costs of basic business economics…
Let’s say you as an owner put your horse in training, and the trainer charges $1250 a month. The trainer probably rides your horse 25 times per month, so that’s an investment of $50 per ride/training session. Now from that $50 per ride the trainer has to supply stabling, bedding, feed, hay, tack, trailers, trucks, arena, facility, etc.
The farrier shoes your horse every 6 weeks, and charges $200, which comes out to approximately 37.5 rides/sessions per shoeing, which equals $5.33 per ride for your shoeing expense.
The horse needs his teeth done at least every 6 months, and let’s say that charge is also $200, which comes out to 150 rides/training sessions per dental equilibration, which equals $1.33 per ride for your dental expense!
Also consider your horse from 2-5 years old will shed 24 baby teeth and grow in 36 permanent teeth. All during the main ages that we are asking them to develop their skills and athleticism, while using their heads to balance their bodies, without flipping their nose in the air or pushing on the bit. And yet it’s still one of the most “Out of sight, Out of mind” problems that still plagues many horses.
Add to that the level of competition today, and the difference of your horse competing at 85% vs 100% of their ability, and then ask the question- “What’s one point on my score worth? What’s one tenth of a second worth?” Sometimes it’s a very expensive difference!

You can drive your truck a long time without changing the oil, but after ignoring the little things long enough and valves start rattling, you have some.

This spec is designed to help hold open the horses moth with less pressure in the TMJ and give me more room to work so we can help your horse feel even better. Every thing from the hing point to the angles of the bite plates helps to make the horse more comfortable while being worked on.

So for some of the new followers, I am still currently serving full time active duty in the U.S. Army and yes I still jump out of perfectly good airplanes lol. I have recently married the most amazing woman on the 4th of July. What's more American that a military member and a 5th grade school teacher getting married after 20+ years of knowing each other on Independence Day.

I have been an equine dentist for over 2 years now and have worked on over 1,000 horses.

Big thank you to Keaton Davis at United Ag and Turf in Wichita Falls, Texas for helping us purchase new John Deer 5060E tractor, so we can continue to keep the ranch looking and running good! Now with this we can load and unload our hay with easy. With that be on the look out as we will have large round bales for sale or prime coastal horses hay available soon .
