Danielle Koppel, Cpdt-Ka Thank you for everyone’s support but this business is now closed. Danielle has over 8 years of experience working with animals, both domesticated and exotic.

For the past 3 years Danielle worked at Petco as a Senior Dog trainer and Dog Training Instructor Mentor. At home she has a 2 year old American Staff./Boston Mix, named Tahlia and a 6 year old Chihuahua named Riley. Growing up she trained horses and for her 11 year old birthday present she got her Standard Poodle named Shadow. They did everything together from; competitive obedience, agility to be

ing a certified therapy dog team. Now Tahlia has taken up the baton- she is a certified AKC Canine Good Citizen and is doing training in K9 Nose Work. At the University of New Hampshire, Danielle studied Psychology with a focus in Animal Behavior. While there she also taught therapeutic horseback riding, dabbled in service dog training, and worked in behavioral research labs. She also spent sometime in Africa working with various animals, but mostly training Cheetahs and Baboons who couldn't be re-released to the wild. Danielle is also a member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers which is a national organization for the ongoing education of trainers with the most up-to-date, well researched techniques. She also is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer- Knowledge Assessed through the Certification Council of Professional Dog Trainers. Danielle's training programs promote relationships of mutual respect and trust between pet and pet parent. This is accomplished with scientifically proven, humane, positive, and voluntary, reward-based training methods to teach how dogs think, learn, and communicate. Her goal when working with dogs is to encourage appropriate dog behavior and to teach real-world applications for dog training.

Edit for 2020 edition: This is a great year to practice good holiday behavior! Gatherings will be smaller, and provide a great opportunity to set our dogs up for success and rehearse good behavior, so that when we get back to "normal" holiday routines in the future they are ready to go!

Thanksgiving is just around the corner! 🍁

While it might be too late to completely overhaul your dog's manners in time for pristine holiday behavior just under 2 weeks from now, there are a few things you can do to help set your dog up for success if you are hosting a gathering this holiday.

Check out this week's blog for more thoughts on this topic! www.summitdogtraining.com/blog/2019/11/15/hellloooo-holidays

Happy Thanksgiving!

It’s cold here in Texas!!! While some dogs might LOVE the cold, some do not (same for humans) but remember that regardless of the weather, your dog still needs enrichment and appropriate outlets. There are so many ways to add enrichment when it’s cold. Food puzzles, recall games, scent work, sniffy walks...the options are endless. Get creative and challenge yourself to find ways to feed your dog today WITHOUT a food bowl. Today I am using an amazon box with all of the paper packaging still inside and tossing a mixture of treats and dry food inside for my dog to search and forage. And then we are going to a dog friendly place to shop inside. What is everyone else doing. Also...please send pics of your winterized pup.

It might be raining and cold but frisbee= life... according to Tahlia any way. How do you play with your dogs when it rains?

In fact, for anxious dogs medication may speed up the training process as your dog won’t be having as hard if a time.

I’ve written about medicating anxious dogs before, and it’s such an important topic that I want to touch on it again. There are so many misconceptions surrounding this subject. The idea that anxiety…
