FAQ: what is the difference between the regular weekend c**t starting clinic and the advanced 5 day camp? And do I need to attend the weekend one before the advanced one?

ANSWER: No you do not need to attend the weekend c**t starting before the advanced clinic. The weekend clinic is open to anyone, and everyone brings their own horse. There are no prerequisite skills and I meet each person and horse where they’re at. It typically covers the first 3 sessions I would work through with a horse including a couple rides.

The advanced camp is intensive. You will be provided 2 c**ts and work each one twice a day. It will give you a real look into my day to day life and what training for the public looks like! There are prerequisite skills required such as being able to walk, trot, lope on a loose rein, be comfortable saddling horses, and be in physical condition that you are able to work c**ts for 5 full days. This camp covers the first two weeks of what my program includes (crammed into 5 days!) and we will go over teaching horses sidepassing, softness, circles, lines, riding out, turnarounds, body control, drills etc. and hopefully have a horse that’s ready to go do a job by the end of it! Accommodations and meals are provided for the camp and since there’s no need to bring a horse, it’s ideal for those that may be interested in flying in! If you are within driving distance, you are welcome to bring one personal horse to work in the evenings or in down time.

How do you build confidence in your horse? That’s a question I get asked a lot. But let’s take a step back. Do you know how to build confidence in yourself? If you can’t build confidence in yourself, how do you expect to build it in your horse?
Let me tell you a secret.
🌟 Confidence is built by keeping promises to yourself and completing tasks/jobs/actions. 🌟
This means doing the things you tell yourself you’re going to do. Pushing yourself and completing actions you didn’t know you could. Creating productive and winning routines. Achieving goals.
So how do you teach your horse confidence?
👏🏼 Exactly. 👏🏼 The. 👏🏼 Same. 👏🏼 Way.
Keep the promises you make to them by setting them up for success and keeping them out of trouble when they trust you. Give them skill appropriate jobs to complete. Open the gate. Move the cow. Cross the creek. Drag the log. Praise and reward them for doing the dang thing! Overcoming uncertainty and adversity- adversity is NOT A BAD THING (another post for another day…) is exactly what gives you or your horse confidence for the next thing!
💁🏼‍♀️ In 2025 I started making one new promise to myself every month. Something that becomes a winning routine. January? I promised myself I would brush my teeth every morning, and cleanse my face every night. (These are two things anxiety has made very difficult for me in the past- but that’s a whole other post too)
And let me tell you, I have kept that promise to myself. Every. Single. Day. And it feels dang good. It’s amazing how much of a bad a$$ I feel like over such a simple task. A task I couldn’t bring myself to do before. And now I’m doing the dang thing. It doesn’t have to be big. Whatever it is you tell yourself you’re going to do- do it. And watch your confidence soar. 🦅

I guarantee you’ve never been to a barn with this rule on their sign before. It something that sets my place apart as it’s not only an arena rule, it’s also a foundational belief in my program. But what does it actually mean?
It means setting a horse up for success is more important than anything. It means if your horse is struggling with ground work and moving all over the arena, everyone else gets out of the way as you migrate so you’re not forced to release at an incorrect time. It means if your horse isn’t giving you quite what you’re looking for on the roping dummy, take an extra lap or two until he gives you a try. It means if someone is working through something under saddle, don’t get in their way. It means the other riders cater to those doing first or second rides. It means c**ts without steering may use broke horses as bumper cars. It means no one will judge if your horse isn’t finished, if you come to roping just for the exposure, if you get bucked off… because odds are we’re on a c**t that’s green as grass too!
Do the things you need. Take the time you need. Ask for the support you need.
