Want better off- leash skills? Try this tip:
.
Before we can expect great off leash skills we need to build them. We can make this skill easier by starting at the end- putting the leash back on! Some dogs quickly learn that when the leash comes out… the fun ends. This can quickly evolve into canine games of keep away.
.
Start with your dog in a safe fenced area and let them sniff around a bit. With some yummy treats and your leash in hand, head in the direction of your dog. When you’re a few feet away, call their name. When your dog looks at you, call them to come over to you. When your companion makes their way over to you, reward them, attach the leash, and reward them a second time. Then remove the leash and release your dog to continue doing doggy things in the yard.
.
This will help your dog think of the leash as a happy interruption instead of a fun ender! Happy Training

One Trick Walking: There is one easy way to make walks with your canine companion SO much better…. Talk to your dog! Really, just adding a little verbal context can help a TON.
We don’t want to be a source of constant background noise to our dogs but adding in a few simple verbals can go a long way. Try to think of a helpful word to let your dog know that you’ll be stopping (we use “Wait”) and another phrase to help them know it’s time to get a move on again.
We know that sniffing is important for dogs, we’ve found that adding in a verbal count of “One… Two… Three… okay! Let’s go!” before starting to walk again helps keep our pups on the same page as us. It’s a kind and polite way to let them know that it’s time to wrap up their sniffing at this particular spot and move along to the next adventure!
