This guy is 10 months! He’s keeping up with his brothers when he zooms, getting better at ball catching, shredding everything in reach if he can get away with it, and either in constant motion or snugged up against a human. There’s no dimmer switch on this kid. Sweet, silly, spunky—Ryker.

Ryker, 4 months old on June 4th! Still trying to figure out how his dna is 25% Boston Terrier! I can see a bit more of the Min Pin in his face, but he does have more of a Boston b***y walk. He’s 100% the right kind of trouble these days as he grows and explores! Loving the ears starting to stand up now ❤️

Tyson came into our lives 15.5 years ago. At a time my heart was breaking because my dad’s life was reaching an end and Wil was traveling for work most weeks. He became a partner in crime when I needed that extra company.

He and I were not usually on the same page about anything though. He was always particular and grumpy—something we chalked up to the fact he had a rough start in life before we adopted him. In reality he was a deeply sensitive guy who wanted you to think he was tough. But when he loved—a bone, toy, or person—he loved hard. 100%. This guy had no dimmer switch. He was either in or out. On or off. Loved you or couldn’t stand you. And he let us know.

Up until a few months ago, when he started to value sleep more, I never went to the bathroom alone, ever. Whether it was the middle of the night or not. He was my shadow. He read energy and knew how to pull me out when I needed it—usually by tough love barking at me. So i knew when that stopped this fall, he was starting his walk to the next leg of the journey.

He moved with us 6 times. He helped us each grieve the loss of a parent, grandparent, and several good friends. He was the grouchy constant in my life when his daddy was inpatient for months during cancer. Tyson , my friend, slept next to me all those nights so I was never alone. And absorbed more of my tears and felt my fear more than any other living being. For that I am forever grateful.

We buried your sister Bella and grieved her together. You begrudgingly accepted 3 more dogs into our house and showed them the ropes. Because at your very heart, you were a softy. You just needed to give them hell first. You know, boundaries.

You kept your circle small. You liked being home. With just us or a few special friends. He had several human girlfriends he adored. COVID was his dream come true when i got to work from home. Especially as his hearing went and he could relax, giving over watch dog duties to the younger crew. In the past few years he then became my snuggle bug—these last 3 years with ongoing health issues, we knew we were on bonus time.

I hope he felt how I softened over the years too, getting to discover the vast preferences he had—-as I grew to be a better as a human through him. Love became more patient between us—our similar energy was something we navigated better over time. Which may be the biggest lesson I learned—pick your partners well and work at it every day.

I hope he felt surrounded as we all camped out as a family around his kennel this past week, as he grew so tired and sick. If he couldn’t sleep in the bed with us, we sure couldn’t sleep there either. And to let him have free ample roam of our own yard was something I’ll always feel grateful for, timing wise. While he was never a happy traveler, he sure did love soaking up some sun.

We will always love you, Sweet T. We are truly gutted at losing you. We knew this was always the price, we were just never going to be ready to let you go. But it was a truly a privilege and honor to walk you all the way home.
